Hillary Clinton

http://www.dailynewsbin.com/opinion/now-that-hillary-has-won-the-remaining-bernie-fanatics-have-gone-nuts-they-never-mattered/24812/Each day it becomes more clear that Hillary Clinton is certain to become the 2016 Democratic Party nominee. Shes ahead by more than three million votes. Accordingly she only needs a handful of delegates from the final states, which she get proportionally win or lose, in order to clinch it. Thats prompted most supporters of Bernie Sanders, including some of his most prominent backers, to begin embracing the inevitable: that its time to support Hillary in the general election even if they still support Bernies platform. But as the Nevada convention demonstrated this weekend, the minority of Bernie fanatics have gone completely nuts. And thats okay, because they were never a part of this process.
Last fall I wrote that Bernie Sanders essentially had two bases of support in his Presidential campaign. Even back then, the trend was clear enough to see. 85% of them were regular democrats and liberals who happened to like what he was selling, and they were always going to slide to Hillary if she won the nomination, because they were never going to sit back and let a republican win. The other 15% were self described libertarians but came off more like anarchists or just paranoid anti-government types who were latching onto Bernie for all the wrong reasons: when he talked about a political revolution all they heard was revolution. And now those two groups are fully diverging from each other.
As had always been predictable, various prominent Bernie Sanders surrogates ranging from Bill Maher to Michael Moore to Robert Reich are now making clear that theyll vote for Hillary Clinton in November if shes the nominee. For that matter so will most of Bernies supporters overall, because theyre not insane enough to allow a republican like Donald Trump to become President. And yet there are still those pesky anti-government loons who are trying to burn down the Democratic Party now that their preferred candidate lost in a multimillion vote blowout fair and square. But theyre about to make a different kind of pivot of their own.
The ugly scene at the Nevada convention, which saw Bernie loons booing respected Senator Barbara Boxer and then later booing Bernies own surrogate Nina Turner before ultimately getting on the wrong side of the police, can only serve to chase away Bernies reasonable supporters. They may not be ready to give up on him, but they can see that his campaign has become a sinking ship thats now dominated by crazed bottom-feeders who dont care about progress. Reasonable people will bail on his campaign all the more quickly, preferring to root for him as a Senator, as an idea, but no longer as a Presidential candidate.
And even the loons will get chased off soon enough. Bernie Sanders keeps saying that whether he becomes the democratic nominee or not, hell do everything he can do help defeat Donald Trump when the time comes. That means at some point hell end his campaign and at least nominally get behind Hillary Clinton, so he can use it as a platform for trying to bury Trump. And thats right about the time that the crazed loons will abandon Bernie, perhaps claiming that he sold out or that hes now a part of the establishment conspiracy against himself.
Most of the loons wont end up voting in November at all. And that wont hurt anything, because these were the types who were never going to vote for a major party candidate to begin with. They were merely bandwagoning on what they secretly hoped might be the end of the world as we know it. Meanwhile the majority of Bernies supporters are already coming around to the idea that theyll be voting for Hillary in the fall.
It will all fade away soon.....

(3,300 posts)I think Bernie has a problem within himself......also maybe not accomplishing much in life being unknown to most I knew him form Tom Hartmann show since Tom is from my home state but otherwise I would have never known who he was......and maybe a little jealous of Hillary....
Maybe he was a lonely child when young ,they say he ate lunch alone a lot, maybe something to do with his.pass not sure but no excuse for his anger .......and he is controlling

(10,014 posts)As for his 'lonely' lunches, none of us knows that, but it seems doubtful since we was raised in NYC and not the backwoods of Montana.

It's seemed to me for the last several months that the Sanders movement has, at least in some part, been co-opted by international groups in the same way that both Occupy and the Ferguson protests were. The FEC questions about foreign donations to Sanders campaign is a red flag. The vicious abject demonization of Clinton is another.

(9,494 posts)They will just end up marginalizing themselves. If they go nuts at the convention, not only will voters be embarrassed to continue to support Bernie, they will be ashamed to admit that they ever did.

(6,974 posts)Very enthusiastic Bernie Sanders supporters. ALL have and continue to donate and a few phone bank for Bernie Sanders. NONE are unhinged, crazy or aggressive (Just like most Hillary Clinton fans aren't unhinged, crazy or aggressive etc.). ALL of them intend on voting blue whoever wins the Democratic nomination, and that means them voting for Hillary Clinton, because they're scared to DEATH of a Donald Trump presidency and of course scared of what he'll do TO the Supreme Court with Scalia-type appointments and I don't blame them one bit.
We were all good friends BEFORE Hillary & Bernie's run for the presidency and we'll REMAIN good friends AFTER the GE come this fall.

(12,448 posts)Here on DU, the loons are out-shouting and bullying the sane Sanders supporters, so looking through the DU prism it seems as if they're the majority. They're not; they're just the loudest.
I wish I could completely believe that last paragraph, but I'm still concerned about Philadelphia. They may be a minority, but some are really unhinged.

(36,296 posts)Support for Bernie has dropped even here at DU. There was a time not long ago when there were far more posts made per day in the Bernie group then in the Hillary group. Since New York, that has changed and number of posts in the Bernie group have dropped dramatically while it has risen and remains strong in the Hillary group.

(13,975 posts)who is still going to vote for him in June in New Mexico. I'll expect Sanders to concede the night of June 7th and throw his full support to Clinton. If he drags it out till the Democratic Convention, my feelings about him will change drastically for the worse. I like Hillary and can't wait till she stomps Donald Trump in November.
Anyway, because I expressed that I'm going to proudly support Clinton, I've had fellow Bernie supporters ostracize me and claim I'm a troll and other terrible things. It makes me so angry and hurt. There's a a lot of reasonable, good supporters of Sanders but they're being out-yelled by the kooks and privileged who can afford not to vote D because it won't affect them personally. It's bullshit.

(2,792 posts)It is my survival instinct that compels me to vote against Trump. Things will get very, very bad if that madman takes control of this country. If I were rich, I could probably ride out a Trump presidency. As it is, I wouldn't make it.

(28,340 posts)Please remember that the online "supporters" here are truly the fringe element. I highly suspect many of them are Rand/Ron Paul types that were cast out into orbit on their collapse and landed here. Many of them have little or no experience with politics and aren't yet used to the idea that sometimes you run your best campaign and just fall short because the other candidate gets more votes. That really stings. Most of us have been there before. But you dust off your pride and move forward. Especially when you're facing a pumpkin-hued, knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing, living "missing link" of an opponent who would without a single doubt cast this country and the world into a free-fall the likes of which have never been seen.
But anyway, chin up. We're all going to be ok. I believe it.
