"I was not able to stop these people for doing what they did," Boxer, a Hillary Clinton supporter, told CNN. "Apparently they've done it before. .... This group of about 100 were very vocal, and I can't describe it -- disrespectful doesn't even explain it, it was worse than that."

Boxer is hardly the lone Clinton supporter to experience such harassment on the campaign trail. Several top Democrats told CNN publicly and privately that the energy and enthusiasm of Sanders supporters has at times descended into incendiary attacks that threaten to tear apart efforts to unite Democrats against Donald Trump. Several female senators told CNN the attacks have been misogynistic.
What's more, many Democrats fear that if Sanders does not rein in his supporters, the same ugly scene that occurred in Las Vegas last weekend could replicate itself in the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
"He should get things under control," Boxer said of Sanders, saying it was worse than the vitriol during the Bush-Gore 2000 recount. "We're in a race that is very critical. We have to be united. He knows that. I have in fact, called him a couple times, left a couple messages. I'm hopeful he can get control of this."
Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California said "I do" when asked if Sanders should drop out of the race after voting concludes on June 7, giving Clinton a chance to "pivot" to the general election ahead of the July convention.
"I think it would be most regretful if there becomes a schism," Feinstein said. "That's what Donald Trump should want: a schism in our party. ... It's the responsibility particularly of Sen. Sanders to see that that doesn't happen."
On Tuesday, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid said he had a "long conversation" with Sanders to lay out what happened in Nevada.
"He said that he condemns that. I'm confident he does," Reid told reporters. "This is a test of leadership."
Reid declined to comment when asked if he was worried that Sanders' backers could upend the national convention this summer.

(2,542 posts)I believe the majority of Bernie's supporters still want to stop Trump from becoming president.

(7,480 posts)Good grief. It's what has been happening. Of course, you'd know that if you'd been paying attention.
- Retiring congressman Jim McDermott of Washington had a Sanders supporter threaten to cut out his tongue. He'd shown up at his office screaming and almost foaming at the mouth.
- In Los Angeles, Sanders supporters harassed Clinton supporters -- including children -- as they left a rally in support of Hillary. Even going as far as to yell at children and ripping a sign Hillary had signed from a little girl's hands.
- In Alaska this pass weekend they also caused a ruckus by threatening party officials.
- In the Nevada Democratic Convention on Saturday -- where I was a delegate with my wife -- I witnessed them yelling, calling Barbara Boxer a bitch, threatening our State Chairwoman, and throwing a chair at the podium.
- A site was created to target superdelegates with harassment to try to intimidate them into changing their support to Sanders.
- Sanders supporters have attacked, harassed, and revealed the phone numbers and home addresses of Clinton supporters.
So, spare me your excuses.

(2,542 posts)I'm not here to dismiss stories of bad behavior by Sanders supporters as clickbait. Nor am I trying to imply the stories aren't really happening. My point is that the media enables this and shares the blame. It's the entire media narrative of "the ongoing Democratic Primary" that is the clickbait, because the Democratic Primary was over back in March.

(7,480 posts)I'm likely a bit hypersensitive from dealing with those assholes this weekend. Either way, I shouldn't lash out at others. You're right and I apologize.

These bad actors seem closer to petulant children than go-for-broke agitators. I'm not sure that they're ready to trade mom and dad's basement for the federal hoosegow. So, unless Clint Eastwood has a cameo appearance planned, I don't think there will be any more chairs playing a role!

(15,366 posts)NEVER AGAIN must the Democratic Party allow itself to be used as a vehicle to the Presidency by someone who has not only never been a Dem until five minutes before his campaign began but who has spent most of his political career berating Democrats.
There must be a minimum time requirement as a functioning and successful Democratic politician before one can jump into a Presidential race as a Democratic candidate.
It may not necessarily be required for other positions. But for President, it must be a requirement. If there were ever any doubt, 2016 shows just how much a time requirement is needed.
The silver lining is that these situations have shown that a Sanders Presidency would be a disaster, even if that disaster might be at least slightly better than the unmitigated disaster of a Trump Presidency.

(13,952 posts)to be a minority of Sanders supporters. I continue to believe that Bernie will endorse Clinton at the convention, and that most Bernie Sanders voters (including me) will happily vote for Clinton against the Orange Menace.
If Bernie for some odd reason encourages mayhem or disunity at the convention or afterwards, then all my respect for him will go down the drain. But he won't!
