USA Today: Cory Booker Smartest Choice for VP

Among current officeholder one name stands out, Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey. The former mayor of New Jersey's largest city has executive experience, speaks Spanish and is an energetic and enthusiastic campaigner who is well known beyond the borders of the Garden State.

Would Clinton carry New Jersey without Booker? Probably, but Booker's appeal is demographic not geographic. Black voters will turn out in larger numbers for an African American. Booker also appeals to a demographic group with which Clinton is notably weak: young voters. I have seen Booker in several appearances at schools and universities, and his crowd appeal is impressive.

But won't black voters support Clinton without the lure of one of their own on the ticket? In general, the answer is "yes," but they likely will not support her in the numbers that supported Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012. And while Clinton defeated Bernie Sanders convincingly among black voters in Southern primaries, she did less well against him in the Midwest and among younger African Americans. This does not portend well for her in November. African Americans have a history of lower turnouts than white Democratic constituencies. And while Democratic candidates enter presidential elections can be confident of the support of 85% of black voters, it is the numbers of those voters, not their level of support for Democratic nominees, that should be of concern to Clinton.

We have a chance at taking back the Senate and god knows what Christie would do to us/impose on us if Booker were to leave. We can't give up a solid Democratic Party member in the Senate and I believe Mendez will be in a weakend state his next go round.

Selfishly? I'd rather seem him as our Governor.

Realistically- I don't think he would accept the position.

I think brooklynite stated Brown was not interested in the WH.

Either would be fantastic choices but if we have a Chance to take back the Senate - no retreat no surrender.

Just ask them.

The rest of us are not allowed to think stuff like the entire Exxon corporation should be dumped in a sinkhole in Russia.

And it gives me a lot of satisfaction knowing that choosing him will really bug the hardcore Hillary haters.
