Bernie. Dont Do This. With a scorched-earth campaign against Clinton, Sanders is risking his partys nominee, its coalition, and his message.

Bernie Sanders is still in it to win it. Which is a problem. Because he cant.
Hillary Clinton holds 1,768 pledged delegatesallocated through primaries and caucusesto Sanders 1,494. To overcome that deficit, Sanders would have to win 67 percent of all remaining delegates, including massive wins in Clinton-friendly states such as California and New Jersey. Barring an extraordinary shift, this wont happen. Its not a live possibility.
But the Sanders campaign doesnt seem to care. While Mr. Sanders says he does not want Mr. Trump to win in November, his advisers and allies say he is willing to do some harm to Mrs. Clinton in the shorter term if it means he can capture a majority of the 475 pledged delegates at stake in California and arrive at the Philadelphia convention with maximum political power, reports the New York Times on the campaigns newest strategya scorched-earth run to the finish.

(1,965 posts)I started out, months ago, as a staunch BS supporter. What he said spoke more to me than anything HRC said. His positions aligned more with my interests and desires exponentially more than those of HRC. I could see light at the end of the tunnel of bat shittery and bug fuckery that the goops have foisted upon us for 3+ decades. A good shot at a turn around.
I voted for Bernie in the primary and donated some $$ to his campaign, twice. I sang his praises and engaged HRC and even a few drumpf supporters in mostly futile efforts to get through their thick skulls with reason. Convert them. I did these things, even though the whole while, in the back of my mind I believed HRC to be more qualified to sit in the Oval Office. More qualified, I figured, due to her run as SoS, her time in the US Senate. I believed 8 years as First Lady gave her something of a boost, in knowing some of the inner workings of the White House, if not the Presidency itself. Still, I pushed hard for Bernie.
Then I started noticing irrational comments and demands from other BSers. First mostly here on DU. In particularly the BS group, from where I was banned, early on, for the high crime of agreeing with a pro BS OP. Crazy. Then I started seeing news items pop up indicating these irrational, illogical behaviors occurring nationally. Vows to sit out, in November, if it isn't Bernie, which will certainly amount to votes for drumpf. More crazy... Now this SHIT?
I'm at the point, now, where I really wish Sanders would just dry up and blow away.

(2,792 posts)I supported Bernie very early in the campaign, because of his progressive" positions. Then I shifted allegiance to O'Malley," because I saw him advance virtually the same positions, but as a Democrat. I also believed that O'Malley had the better temperament and character of the two. I saw Bernie as extremely angry, and my own values made me afraid that Bernie's campaign would become another movement based on anger and hatred.
At present, it appears that Sanders' hatred of all things Democrat has gone out of control and this hatred has produced a destructive conflagration among his supporters. I hope that, with the stability of a Clinton administration, the progressive movement can work away from anger and stupid revolutionary incendiary talk and start working within the Democratic party to get more progressives into office, while working in a political, collegial, and non-hostile manner with others. We need to focus on the common good of all Americans, and we need to get past divisiveness, which has always proved to be a greater curse than the ills it seeks to remedy.
And I believe that the bearer of the new progressive message will have to be a young proponent of humanistic and practical goals, who believes that we ought to end petty divisions and to strive to work together for each other and -- even more -- for the well-being of earth, our home. The messenger of the progressive movement will have to be one who inspires optimism and confidence in the future.
I don't think progressives were well-served by the Sanders campaign. In fact, I believe their values were harmed.
To put it mildly, future goals of humanity will be about more than "free college."

(15,438 posts)I don't believe, not even for a moment, that BS cares whether Trump becomes president or not. He's lied about so many important things already that it wouldn't be a stretch to believe he lied when he said he'd "do everything possible to make sure Trump doesn't become president".
People should not take BS on his word on anything but, instead, look at his actions - and his actions clearly show he's out to destroy the Democratic Party any which way he can because he knows he's already lost, and BS has already shown in the past, he's a very, very poor and ungracious loser.
