Sanders fails to oust Clinton backers from convention roles

http://bigstory.ap.org/article/a9a368ce98164309aa0a3f4cd74ad6c8/sanders-fails-oust-clinton-backers-convention-roles

WASHINGTON (AP) Democratic officials have rejected Bernie Sanders' request to remove two high-profile Hillary Clinton supporters from leadership positions at the party's summer convention.

Sanders' presidential campaign said in a letter Friday to the Democratic National Committee that Dannel Malloy, Connecticut's governor, and Barney Frank, a former Massachusetts congressman, couldn't be relied upon to perform their roles "fairly and capably while laboring under such deeply held bias."

Malloy is Platform Committee co-chairman. Frank is co-chairman of the Rules Committee.

Democratic officials responded to Sanders' request on Saturday, saying in a letter that Malloy and Frank were elected under party rules and that Sanders wasn't alleging any violations of that process.

The DNC says it reviewed the challenge, found it failed to meet the criteria and "we are compelled to dismiss it."

1. Who the hell does he think he is anyway?

Hes been a "democrat" for 10 minutes, the loser in popular votes and delegates, and hes telling the party what to do?

What ridiculous hubris!

2. If BS wanted to run again in four to eight years from now (because his health is good)...

the DNC will want no part of him. He has blown any future chances to run in the democratic party.

7. Right?

Bernie is slowly, but surely losing any democratic support he even had. I wouldn't be surprised if he lost them 2 to 1 in exit polls in CA and NJ.

to Hillary having two.

14. Hey, he has some pledged delegates, he has a few super delegates, he is running second in a two

person race which means he lost, it does not mean he is in control. His agenda was not bought by the voters, now we want the candidate with a realistic agenda and he should get with the program and get ready to fight like hell to keep Trump from becoming president. Now when we go to his play yard, then we will need to abide by his rules, right now we have a GE we need to win.

16. I think he made the demands knowing they would be denied

Now his reason for disrupting the convention is ready made. Pitiful to see him destroy his legacy this way. In future elections, these nihilistic tactics will probably be labeled "pulling a Bernie".

But I do have to say it takes it to a whole 'nother level when you have BernieBro attorneys. Yikes.

21. I'm hoping that once he drops out, the Dems will take more of his power away, since

at that time he will have no more leverage. Maybe add new platform committee members, to in essence dilute his influence.

California to sue the state to allow those who had already cast their ballot to have a redo vote, because they didn't understand the rules

28. I love Frank's response to this silliness

Franks is not amused http://www.politico.com/blogs/2016-dem-primary-live-updates-and-results/2016/05/bernie-sanders-hillary-clinton-convention-allies-223685

Frank brushed off the Sanders camp's charges.

"It is inconceivable to me that anything could come before that committee that will affect who the nominee is," Frank said. "I think what you have here is this: Sanders is losing to Hillary Clinton because she is getting many more votes and many more pledged delegates. Some of the Sanders supporters are trying to lay the claim that he's being unfairly deprived of this."

Asked what he thought Sanders' endgame goal was, Frank said it might be to suggest he was robbed of the nomination.

"I hope it is not to lay the basis for an inaccurate claim that he was unfairly denied the nomination and I do see some elements of this," Frank said. "We really had two nomination contests this year. Bernie Sanders is the nominee of the caucuses; Hillary Clinton is the nominee of the primaries, which are more Democratic."
