From #HillaryMen: Trump, Sanders, Hillary, and Sexism in the 2016 Election (Hillary Group)

UPDATE: Credit to Bernie Sanders, who speaks the truth about sexism and Hillary Clinton:

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said on Sunday that some detractors dislike former secretary of State Hillary Clinton because she’s a woman. Sanders argued that gender drives many of the attacks against his opponent for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination. “I can’t think of many personalities who have been attacked for more reasons than Hillary Clinton,” Sanders told host John Dickerson on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

“I don’t know that a man would be treated the same way that Hillary is,” he said. “Some of it is sexist.”

SEXISM:

1: prejudice or discrimination based on sex; especially: discrimination against women

2: behavior, conditions, or attitudes that foster stereotypes of social roles based on sex

Donald Trump has made waves for a disgusting comment he made about Fox News host Megyn Kelly...

Trump’s behavior is deplorable, but it is not an isolated problem. The larger 2016 election context is the vile treatment of Hillary Clinton at the hands of the media, political class and commentariat.

Hillary is leading in the polls, which may lead some to overlook the cause and effect of the constant barrage of invective directed against her. But we cannot understand the dynamics of 2016 without a sober view of the daily verbal assault that Hillary endures. As we wrote recently about mainstream media coverage:

The dizzying array of dehumanizing and demeaning terms targeting Hillary in recent weeks (Machiavellian, Lovecraftian, slithering, monstrous, imperious, musty, petulant, paranoid, stale, scornful, regal, devious, deceitful, robotic, abnormal, etc.) is a concrete manifestation of the gender barrier in American politics. It constitutes a “wall of words” blocking her path to the presidency.

The wall of words exists because Hillary Clinton is a woman. And that is the definition of sexism....

The Internet is flooded with Hillary hate, it has been since the days of squeaky dial-up modems and chat rooms. Twitter, Facebook and other modern social channels are conduits for Hillary-bashers to let loose their repulsive rants. Anonymous trolls, however, are not the only problem. Writing about the still unrepentant New York Times and their dangerously false story about Hillary’s emails, we said:

This behavior from the Times matters to the race for the presidency and Hillary’s quest to break the ultimate gender barrier in American politics....

Donald Trump may be the center of attention in the summer of 2015, but it is the manic desire to ‘Stop Hillary’ and the roots of that desire that we need to expose and reject....

1. Supporting Hillary simply in reaction to others' sexism caricatures and dehumanizes her as well

I appreciate male allies in the movement for gender justice and thank you for your post. Speaking as a long-time radical feminist, I have immense respect for Hillary and wish she'd get appointed to SCOTUS or continue in global women's rights work. She has endured so much vitriole from the right (and some on the left, in 2007-8) for being a strong, unapologetic female.

That said, I wouldn't vote for Thatcher (were she resurrected), or Kay Bailey Hutchinson, or Carly Fiorina, or Condoleeza Rice. All strong women--none as strong and brilliant as Hilary--but addressing the excesses of late-stage capitalism from the ground up is our best hope of dealing with global climate change, peak oil, and the gross income inequality that is exacerbating historic racial and gender inequality. She doesn't get it. She's a neoliberal through and through. Like Obama, she has vested interests in Wall Street.

We need much more powerful change than Hilary can offer. The best national option for that change, in addition to our fighting against voter suppression to regain control at the local, state, and congressional level, is Bernie Sanders, an elderly white Jewish male.

As Catharine MacKinnon famously said about women who fought feminism, "the good news, it's not biological." Indeed, it is not. Which is why I don't give a shit that my candidate has a penis. His politics, character, and history are what matter to me, and the only reason his penis matters is that because he has one (and white skin), he could have happily ignored the problems of entire segments of society and probably made a lot more money and been more politically successful earlier. He didn't cave in to that privilege because he believes in something greater. I work to live in a world where this is the basis on which we evaluate people.

All those strong women you name - none capable of the job at hand. Nice misogyny.

6. I'm a "misogynist?" I've worked in battered women's and anti-pornography movement since 80s

But because I don't support your candidate who happens to be a female, then by your standard, I'm a misogynist.

If that's your standard for misogyny, you don't understand sexism at all. How sad.

7. If you don't support Hillary Clinton what are you doing in this group....

...comparing her to Thatcher and Carly Fiorina? You may not be a misogynist (in your own mind) but you are definitely in the wrong place. Hopefully you will delete you post, go away and never come back to insult our candidate again.

Hillary is the best candidate we have for President bar none. Yes.. a strong and brilliant woman for POTUS.

Sorry you don't get to come in Hillary's Group and talk about Bernie.. who I don't think is all that, anyway.

8. Bernie is a Senator from a barely populated state who talks a lot but hasn't done much.

He is basically a stand in for Elizabeth Warren because she is too busy working to take time out to lose to Hillary Clinton in the primaries.
His supporters are a weird combination of idealistic progressives who have bought into Clinton hate, gun lovin' Dems and republican trolls. They are basically the internet perfect storm of stridently annoying posters who spend their days attacking anyone who doesn't "feel the Bern". They seem to have a lot of free time on their hands so they show up at rallies and have taken over Reddit and driven everyone else away.

One of the Bernie fans posted some hateful shit about Hillary. I responded with something vanilla and mentioned that we all wanted a Dem to win and if Bernie was the candidate I would support him. The then insanity started. Another posted if he saw me in a bar there would be a fight because anyone who would support Hillary was his mortal enemy.

So...I said my usual, that Hillary is ahead in every state and in every poll, Bernie fans were delusional and that was the nicest thing I could say about them. Next thing I know I was banned and told not to come back.

Smartest thing DU did was having seperate Hillary and Bernie groups.
