That's Celie crying cause her daddy raped her, stole her babies, sold them, tried to rape her sister, then her brand new husband tried the same stuff with her sister, then violently threw her sister out when she rejected his advances. That scene is one of the worst and best and most heartwrenching scenes ever.
Nina is more like the 'leave brittney alone' girl.
