Cool column on Hillary's nomination by Connie Schultz

Connie Schultz did a great column on celebrating this wonderful milestone in the face of all the nonsense we are hearing about "not gloating."

On Tuesday night, after Hillary Clinton had delivered her first speech as the presumptive Democratic nominee for president, it didn't take long for some of us expressing our joy over this historic moment to feel the burn of reprimand.

We should show more understanding toward those who are disappointed, the critics said.

We should not "rub it in."

....

We are not trying to hurt anyone with our enthusiasm, yet it is so very female to lower our voices and dim the signs of our happiness to avoid upsetting those who have no business trying to tamp us down. Let us be done with that.

We keep getting told to be sensitive, but being classy and sensitive doesn't mean that we can't rejoice in the nomination of the incredibly qualified, smart, experienced WOMAN we will be working hard to put in the White House in January 2017.

1. Wise woman.

She's married to Sherrod Brown.

2. Right?

Women are made to feel guilty, or bad, for winning.

News reporters today were saying that Bernie should be proud because he ran a "heroic" campaign. I honestly can't remember (or fathom) them saying that about Clinton in '08. The general impression the news gave about her in '08 was that she was "greedy" and "grasping" in a very unflattering and desperate way.

Now we see that, even when she wins, people consider her to be "rubbing it in" for her to openly celebrate her historic achievement. So screw it - if we're going to be wrong no matter what we do, we might as well do what we want.

4. Always the double standard ...

and when one brings it up, one is invariably chastised for "playing the woman card."

Here's mine on Hillary's behalf:

8. I like your woman's card. :)

I'm tired of people on the Right and Left saying she plays the woman card. Fuck 'em. Until they stop using the man card to control anything and everything, I'll reserve the right to use my woman card whenever I want.

9. The problem is the woman card doesn't get you much.

It gets you things like 79 cents on the male dollar, missing out on promotions, being seen as a sex object in your 20s and disappearing after you hit 40, and not being listened to by men or women, even when you're the only person in the room who knows anything about the topic being discussed.

5. This whole election seems we've been told to "SHUT UP, WON'T YOU ALREADY!!!"

and we've put in our place at every turn!

Our opinions, votes and joy are faulty, inconvenient, and very, very inappropriate!
