Ivanka Trump inexplicably gives convention speech mostly aligned with Hillary Clinton’s views

Ivanka Trump took the stage Thursday night at the Republican National Convention in order to introduce her father Donald Trump, the 2016 Republican nominee. She raised some eyebrows early on when she acknowledged that she’s not a Republican herself, even as she insisted that her dad would make the best President possible, most because of his behavior on construction sites. But the bizarre part: Ivanka spent the rest of her speech laying out liberal leaning views that sounded like they were taken right out of Hillary Clinton’s playbook, seemingly going against much of her father’s political views.

Ivanka spent significant time making the case for why women should receive equal pay, highlighting the wage discrepancy which the Republican Party officially refuses to admit exists. She then went on to more specifically state that motherhood is even more of a discriminatory factor than gender in the wage gap.

These are issues that Donald Trump has never once addressed during his campaign and doesn’t appear to believe in at all, as he’s spent his political career alternately claiming wages are either too high or too low in general, but he’s never addressed any women’s rights issue. It was enough to make one wonder if Ivanka Trump mistakenly thought she was giving a speech at the Democratic National Convention instead. She supports her father’s candidacy personally, but she doesn’t appear to support anything that he stands for politically.

hah...is she trying to get people to vote for Hillary?

There's an article I read arguing that people need to stop expecting Ivanka to save us from her father:

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2016/07/ivanka-trump-onboard-campaign.html

Ivanka Trump Is Not Going to Save Us From Her Father by Jessica Pressler

...(Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner's) commitment to their candidate has taken aback those who knew them as avowed Democrats — friends of Chelsea Clinton who, back in 2013, threw a fund-raiser for Cory Booker. “It’s all anyone is talking about,” says a member of their social circle. “People are totally horrified. But she doesn’t seem to let it affect her at all.”

But it must be said: Ivanka is not going to save us. She is not, as the Latin-American and Mexican version of Marie Claire recently begged, going to stop her father by talking to him. If she has tried to get him to tone it down, as reports have suggested, it should be pretty clear by now that she has failed. She is not, as a piece of fanfiction in the Times recently postulated, secretly donating to Hillary. She did not miss the registration deadline for the Republican primary on purpose. She is not, after 34 years of control, going to lose her cool and rebel. As Ivanka has told us repeatedly: “Trumps play to win.” And that’s what she and her husband, Jared Kushner, seem to be exclusively focused on now. Ivanka has been an increasingly visible presence on the trail and is expected to play a starring role at the Republican National Convention. Recently, Senator Bob Corker went so far as to suggest that she’d be a great running mate for her father, adding that he’d never “met a more composed, brilliant, beautiful-in-every-way person.” (This too is wishful thinking — sorry, Republicans, she won’t save you either.)

Perhaps that’s what is so unsettling about Ivanka, why we want there to be more to the story. Before the campaign, New Yorkers liked what we saw reflected in her — she was wealthy and successful and driven but seemed fundamentally decent. Now she is mirroring something else, which is that many of us are willing to overlook ugliness in exchange for success. “One thing I am starting to learn about the circle they move in is that it’s rare to find someone at that level who is truly wholesome and liberal,” says the college friend of Kushner’s, who points out that to people accustomed to rationalizing sky-high bonuses, unfair labor practices, rampant economic inequality, and blackmail, Trump’s rants about building a wall are just another unsavory reality to ignore. “You don’t make billions by being nice.”

which is why watching the media fawn over his family makes me sick to my stomach. There's an ugliness inside them they can't hide.

His wife and children can look as superficially "beautiful" and put together as possible, but the bottom line is that they're supporting a racist, xenophobic monster.

sitting there dumbfounded?

It may take a little while to dawn on them, but they just nominated a New York Democrat who manages to sell huge piles of crap!

Oh - but don't get complacent - he could still win!

in which I expect at the DNC convention. If Republicans buy into this speech it will be different than all the policies the Republicans has been running since Reaganomics started. This did not change my opinion of a obnoxious A-hole he has proven over and over and it still does not give him the qualifications to be president. Hillary is offering the same and is most qualified to be president.
