Hillary got the toughest question of the night, and she handled it like a pro.

When a Sanders-leaning voter at CNN’s Democratic town hall asked Clinton about charges that she is dishonest and double-dealing, Clinton launched into a short review of her long, committed political career.

“They throw all this stuff at me and I’m still standing,” Clinton said. “I’ve been on the front lines of change and progress since I was your age. I have been fighting to give kids and women and the people who are left out and left behind the chance to make the most of their own lives.” Clinton went on to reflect on her time rallying for expanded healthcare coverage as First Lady: “I’ve taken on the status quo again and again. I’ve had millions of dollars spent against me... The drug companies, the insurance companies spent millions against me.”

Clinton closed by adding that “if it were easy, hey, there wouldn’t be any contest. But it’s not easy... You have to have somebody who is a proven, proven fighter. Somebody who has taken them on and won.”

Here she was at her best because she wasn’t making any effort to present herself as especially millennial-friendly or fresh. She was presenting herself exactly as she is: a politician who’s spent a lot of time in the trenches, whose station and experience in the halls of power you either take or leave.

Hillary is battle tested and a winner against the worst the right wing can throw against her.
Bernie would be in a world of hurt in the GE that he and his backers could not handle!

16. Bonsoir, apple~

Hillary uses the tough questions as opportunities.. not something to whine about.

“Sorry Obama, sorry Bill — it’s Abraham Lincoln,” Clinton said.

"And Clinton -- with apologies to Obama and her husband, Bill Clinton -- talked about her real favorite president: Abraham Lincoln.

She said his work in healing the country after the Civil War set the model, and had he not been killed, she suspects the United States "would've been a little less rancorous; a little more forgiving and tolerant."

11. Hillary Clinton has had approximately 160 million dollars of ...

... non-SuperPAC money raised against her in her political career. That's on top of the years and years of free negative advertising on AM radio and Fox News.

Senator Sanders has faced approximately 8 million dollars, and he's been virtually ignored by Fox News and AM radio for his entire political life.

15. From the "stacked" audience . . .

The questioner who raised the "dishonest and double-dealing" was quite young. Glad to see the youngest voters participating, but his question did alert to the uncomfortable reality that he had been misinformed. Before she even began to answer I wanted to ask him where I got his information, seeing as how he was clearly too young to have been aware of the circumstances he referenced; and I'm guessing that school classes don't cover the esoterica that tends to get lost in recitations of names and dates, etc.

To her credit, she handled it well; hell, she's had so much practice batting away mudballs that she could have answered in her sleep. But it's just sad to consider what our young people are being told - or not.

19. She was The top of her game!

but let's remember that Howard Dean won the 2004 Iowa caucus and yet the Corporate media did away with him immediately. I mean that same night!

I'm not saying that was a good thing, and he wasn't even my candidate. But it goes to show that all they need to do is fool enough of the people, for long enough.

It appears that if Iowa caucus goers have not learned that lesson by now, maybe they never will!

Obama won in 2008, but he was an extraordinary candidate, not just followed by the young and very liberals, but he was followed by all!

If Sanders and his supporters think that America is going to be chewing at the bits, and jumping up-and-down, to have their taxes raised for healthcare, after witnessing the fight over healthcare for the last five years, that isn't even over, they have another thing coming!

It's one thing to be idealistic, it's another thing to be idealistic about issues that cannot be passed by a gerrymandered Congress. Our government moves very slowly, and if Bernie Sanders wins the nomination, the revolution will not be televised until after president- elect Trump is sworn in. It will be another occupy movement, that will get barely any coverage even then!

If the corporate media can make five people at a Townhall look like a movement, and totally ignore the million men march in DC this summer, They can do just about anything!

However the difference between the occupy movement and the steaks when that happened, and what we stand to lose is quite different. Say goodbye to President Obama's eight years, along with the supreme court that will now be a kangaroo court, hello to wars, wars, wars, and so many benefits that we would lose, but we now take for granted, and that in fact we now complain about as not being good enough.

Only the most qualified woman there ever was running for president can save us now!

24. Yes, Hillary had another on Top of her Game night!

Dean lost the Iowa Caucuses in 2004, though. He was out there trying to rev up his supporters because they had lost.

And, after that speech the corpmedia decided to manufacture what happened by turning off the audience sound and just playing his speech 24/7 ad nauseam. As they are wont to do when they want somebody to go down.

The media givith and the media taketh away. Couldn't do that with President Obama though. He's beaten them at their own game.

http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2008/01/17/the-battle-cry-that-backfired

I do not think Sanders is going to win the nomination.. so it will be between Hillary and whomever the teabaggers decide to throw out there as the latest sacrificial lamb against our strong Democratic candidate.

have to rush out and clickety-click an instant poll to decide who "won."

Who "won" the town hall is a decision that will be taken by IA Dem voters on 01 February.

But it looks very good for Hillary in IA, IMO. She shines in town hall situations.

A "fake Democrat" who is really an Independent, using the Democratic party. Despicable!

72. Brawahahahahaha! Awww.. poor bernie didn't win the night again. So his supporters have to

80. Ok. Let me give you the next question some little

smarty will ask Bernie. Because I am a nice person I want him to have time to rehears his answer.

All my friends say that you are a grumpy old man and you yell at people and interrupt them and won't let anyone else speak. Also, you say the same thing over and over again and have been since long before I was born. They also say that you are a thief and stole Hillary's campaign data as well as her policies and you are some sort of communist who doesn't respect women and POC.

How do you respond to this?

Actually, no need for BS to rehearse... no one who supports Hillary would be this rude.

69. Tuesday a.m., Tweety in one of his rambling meditations came up with a good no-names-mentioned...

...analogy. Please excuse the lack of an exact quote.

There are true liberals who really care about individuals and their troubles, and then there are liberals who care about the masses of humanity. He ended by saying he "hoped" Sanders could tap into that.

To me it was obvious which candidate was which in his mind; and we all know that Hillary, despite being a thoroughgoing policy wonk, excels at listening to individuals in smaller settings, where her warmth and caring shine through.

Bernie pretty much lectures and rants, wherever he is. For those of an age to have grown up with Charles Schultz's "Peanuts," here's a gem from long ago: "I love humanity; it's people I can't stand."

77. She was, definitely, the brightest and classiest person in that room.

I appreciate the fact that she doesn't feel the need to scream and yell to get her point across. And people standing close when speaking to her don't need a spittle guard.
