Vox: We asked 6 political scientists if Bernie Sanders would have a shot in a general election

http://www.vox.com/2016/2/5/10923304/bernie-sanders-general-election

It's such an insightful and worrisome article (for those of us who want to retain the White House) that I haven't bothered to cherry pick the best parts. It's all good and eye-opening. Please take the time to read it and share it with those you know who are on the fence.

Normally I would post this in GDP but it would just fall on deaf ears. It's an interesting read that could help explain why Democratic party officials are worried about Sanders as the nominee and why Democratic voters should be too. The Bernie Bunch have openly attacked the Democratic party and some have even admitted to not voting for President Obama in 2012. Hell, right now there's a thread in GDP entitled "Smash Clintonism: Why Democrats, Not Republicans, are the Problem." These people are rooting against the President, the Democratic party and the front-runner Hillary Clinton. They may be loud, very active on social media and claim to be more progressive, but we cannot let them hand victory to the Republicans in November.

NH is the high water point and I still bet he under-performs there.

After that, it's Clinton Country.

Have been bashing the president, the party, and anyone who does not see things as they do for years now. Some have been banned, but still control the message that their fellow bashers spew here on DU. They started bashing Hillary, and if you look at the names of the worst trouble makers, the ones with higher post counts, you will see they are the same as the Obama bashers.

I do think Bernie has a problem not only with his so called supporters, but also with is campaign staff. He does not seem to be in control of things, and he doesn't seem to really know his staff is doing till after they do it. Then he has to try and defend their actions, and that makes things even worse.

a large majority (it seems) on DU, a liberal democratic(?) board.

Both hate Hillary, both hate the democratic party and almost all of its members.

How can this be?

How can teabagger hardcore right republicans have the same views on these subjects as so-called progressive leftists??

Republicans would find it easy to tie Sanders to the "socialist" label, Miroff said, adding that only 25 percent of the public trusts the government to carry out policies effectively.

&quot Sanders) really has made radical, socialistic statements in the past about the redistribution of wealth and the expropriation of the oil industry," Miroff said. "The full force of a Republican attack would find Sanders to be a convenient target."

Last night with Maddow, who finally got an interview with Christie. He was already proclaiming Hillary the winner. Stating how yes he has a good chance to win NH, but that Hillary will win everyone else except maybe like the Minnesota/Wisconsin/Iowa/NH places.

There was no doubt in his voice that Hillary would win and how they need to prepare for her.

He was laughing at the end as he was saying there is no way the Republican party would get lucky enough to go up against Bernie, a socialist. Republicans are licking their chops at the opportunity to go against that guy. They would totally attack the socialist view, and that would be something they could use very well in a general election. And then he would also get destroyed on pretty much every issue besides that... It wouldn't even be close.

and my teacher asking students to stand on one side of the room if our parents were supporters of Nixon, McGovern supporters on the other side. I went to the McGovern side (I don't know why because I can't imagine either of my parents actually voting for a Democrat when it came down to it, but those were liberal times so maybe they seemed liberal to me). It was a shock to see the handful of kids around me and the rest of the class on the other side, smirking. I was the only white kid on my side. My first inkling of class and race and politics.

Red States Outnumber Blue for First Time in Gallup Tracking

"Gallup's analysis of political party affiliation at the state level in 2015 finds that 20 states are solidly Republican or leaning Republican, compared with 14 solidly Democratic or leaning Democratic states. The remaining 16 are competitive. This is the first time in Gallup's eight years of tracking partisanship by state that there have been more Republican than Democratic states. It also marks a dramatic shift from 2008, when Democratic strength nationally was its greatest in recent decades."

But it's a great article. The scary thing is that they estimated that Bernie would cost us between 2-3 and 6-10 points in the GE. If the pessimistic estimate is right, that could mean not just a GOP president, but 60 GOP senators due to down-ballot effects.

Yikes.
