Bernie Sanders In 2013: 'I'm Not Obama's Biggest Fan'

President Barack Obama has tried his best to be diplomatic about which candidate in the Democratic presidential primary he thinks hews closer to his agenda. But at a press conference on Tuesday, he tipped his hand a bit.

Speaking in southern California, Obama made the now-rote point that the differences between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are far narrower than those between Democrats and Republicans. But he added that he knows Clinton better (from her time as secretary of state) and suspects that "on certain issues, she agrees with me more than Bernie does."

snip//

And that gets to a larger point. Veterans of this White House don't feel particularly invested in boosting Sanders. They feel that way because the Vermont senator wasn't always there to boost them.

The latest evidence of that was passed along to The Huffington Post at the same time that Obama was speaking. It's a video from an April 2013 episode of "Real Time with Bill Maher" on which Sanders was a guest.

snip//

But it was the language that Sanders used to make his point to Maher -- "I'm not Obama's biggest fan" and "I'm critical of many aspects" -- that rankled White House aides. And in a Democratic primary where fidelity to Obama is proving to be a big asset, that is language that could come back to haunt him.

Hillary didn't want to have President Obama primaried in 2012, either. The President chose her as his SOS and said it was one of the best decisions he's ever made.

I found out about him.. I didn't see anything of substance there.

Obama has done the work and actually accomplished extraordinary amounts over 7 years and counting.. the one who always complains about him.. not so much.

If I had been in a place for 27 years, I'd have had at least 50 people supporting me from there. Bernie has a miserable TWO and both of them borderline communists.

6. You're darn right Bernie should be made to eat his words.

It isn't a surprise though.

I am also darned tired of the "war monger" slurs that constantly get batted around.

It was the Clinton administration who committed America to stopping the Bosnia war in spite of the huge opposition here. The Clinton's were also involved with the Norther Ireland peace process, the North and South Korea Sunshine talks, and intense negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.

The Korean and Israel/Palestinian negotiations were quickly thrown out the door when bush was elected President, and we all know the disaster that caused in so many ways. That is why those who try to equate Clinton with bush, are so wrong in so many ways. Either they are either just repeating sound bytes, or are ignorant of what actually happened

There's are so many lies out there on Hillary.. they don't think they can win on the facts.

But, I have confidence that Hillary will beat them all.. includes M$M, GOP, BS and his fans.

9. Bernie is clearly in love with himself.

Ironically, for a person who sees society in deeply collective terms, he has no sense of what it means to be part of a political party.
Obama is the leader of the Democrats and you want to succeed him? With that attitude?

wants Hillary to carry on his legacy.. not someone who wants to tear Obamacare apart and pooh pooh's his accomplishments like the unemployment rate... etc.

The repubs have tried and they've been unsuccessful. SCOTUS upheld it twice. It's a solid foundation that's here to stay and build on.

President among Democrats:

gainst an extremely popular President among Democrats:

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/president_obama_job_approval_among_democrats-1046.html

The other part of course is Hillary's vast knowledge of domestic, international, and economic issues.

Anyone listening to the debates realizes this. Whenever Bernie lacked an understand of a topic, he resorted back to his talking points.

Not unlike the criticism that was levied against Rubio in the republican debates

reflective of all the accomplishments and successes he and his team have had over the years.

Not nearly enough though because with an honest M$M they would be higher.. and without all the others distorting his record to boost their own agenda.

Hillary knows this because she is reality based.. it has to be so frustrating for her to go up against this in the primary.. but, it is getting her in practice for the absurdity of the GE to come.

Thank you~

33. I use to like Bernie, but since he became a candidate

not so much.

I think what has been revealed since he entered the race is that he doesn't possess a great amount of leadership skills. I agree that he seems to be out of his depth when the conversation moves away from a discussion of economic justice and economic inequality. But, the fact that he has not been able to collect a circle of friends and supporters after so many years in congress and then the senate is a sign that he lacks leadership and diplomacy skills. I started out excited about his candidacy, but as I listened I decided that he would not make a good president.

Hillary, for all her warts and faults, is in possession of a great intellect and great leadership skills. Even the republicans in the Senate liked to work with her and have gone on record saying that she was a great Senator for the people of New York.

President Obama has been a great president. He understood that he is the President of the United States rather that the President of the People who voted for him.

I think Hillary is correct in saying that Bernie is a one issue person.

34. K&R!!

You know, there are quite a few things that Sanders does and says that makes my blood boil.
1. Wanting to primary a sitting president. JEEEEEZ. Had he succeeded, we would have had ROMNEY as president, NOT Obama. Every sitting president who has been primaried has LOST.
2. Jumping in to the Democratic party at the last minute like he has, to further his own ambitions. You know, I see so many Sanders supporters scream "Wall Street" and "big money". What the hell do they think that was? He wants part of the pie from the Dems. Money-grabbing, ya know?
3. Medicare for all - what so many don't realize are the tax INCREASES across the board this will mean to everyone. Not just the super rich, but all of us. I already pay 21% tax rate because I'm self employed (and don't make enough to go in to an even higher pay bracket). With this plan, my tax rate will go up to at least 29%, and likely higher. You think employers won't pass along that 6.2% additional payroll tax to their employees? Think again.
4. Free college - How the hell do you pay for this? How do you justify, at state level, raising taxes that much more on homeowners? Think about it. It's property taxes that primarily pay for public education K-12. So.....homeowners have to pay double? Or what? Nope, not a homeowner myself, but have plenty of friends who are.
5. Better on race than Obama. Really???? And when pressed, the usual "Wall Street" harangue. What in hell makes this man think he'd be better on race than a person of color?

I could go on, but I must now get ready for, and go to work.

Thank you all for having this group where I can post and speak my mind!

35. I dislike the facts of the primary of the president, dislike the dismantling

Of ACA and replacing it with Medicare for all. A true financial projection has not been given by his campaign and it places doubt on whether it is possible. If he was pushing for universal health care clause to be added to ACA it would be different. We know Medicare was enacted for a special group which are seniors, it is not for all ages.

The big problem with a Sanders presidency is ability to handle the needs of being commander in chief, having been given the opportunity to reveal the ability of a rational foreign policy has not happened. Being president is more than financial concerns and campaign finance. We need a well rounded candidate to be presented in the GE, the GOP will be brutal, we can not present a candidate who is not only concerned about a few issues.
