Hillary Clinton's Emails Show She's Basically Julia Louis-Dreyfus in "Veep"There's definitely some Selina Meyer in HRCor vice versa.
By David Corn | Thu Jul. 2, 2015 2:39 PM EDT
This is the ending of a really interesting article about Hillary's early email releases. It may be old news to most of you, but this is my first read. Much more at link below
"...The emails depict Clinton consistently engaged in consequential, deliberative, and thoughtful diplomacy on in-the-news controversies and quieter fronts. When she gave a speech in Guatemala, she mentioned the name of a Guatemalan activist because she was told, as she put it in an email, that doing so "might literally save her life." She and her aides oversaw an effort to pressure the Uganda president to weaken a proposed bill that would criminalize homosexual activity and subject gays and lesbians to the death penalty. (The president told the US ambassador he would work with legislators to revise the measurea slightly weaker version of which did later become law before being invalidated by the top court in Uganda.) And she wanted to use her position to help a young Yemeni woman named Nujood Ali. In August 2009, she sent this email to a senior department aide: "Do you recall Noori Ali (?), the ten year old Yemeni girl who got herself divorced? I met her at the Glamour awards last year. There was a CNN story last few days about how unhappy she is, still living at home, not attending school and quite angry that her life is not better. Is there any way we can help her? Could we get her to the US for counseling and education?"
Ultimately, these emails display a hardworking secretary juggling many issues while trekking the world and frequently responding to challenges with a sharp and sarcastic sense of humor. But they indicate that government work can be arduous and, at times, silly and surreal. No doubt, Clinton and Selina Meyer would have much to discuss and share, should they ever meet or email."

It's nice when they come to light.

(24,625 posts)7. Yes. And people think she is "cold".
I hope during the GE we get a chance to get more of her warm, caring side exposed to more voters.
Thanks for the thread.
And happy to share it!

(30,058 posts)2. Hillary has had many life's experiences. She was a baby sitter in her
Younger life, perhaps it paved her advocacy for children. She worked one summer in Alaskan salmon camp as a dishwasher. She donated time to register voters in South Texas. She will continue to work hard for Americans.

(31,170 posts)4. I think her mothers story is also a HUGE part of her advocacy for children.
Having a horrible childhood, sent to her very strict grandparents when she was 8, confined to her room for a year except to go to school...and finally leaving her grandparents home to go to work 14 as a housekeeper...very tough existence for a young girl...things were much better for her by the time Hillary came along.
