Hillary Clinton
Related: About this forumWhy We Support Hillary Clinton (Posted to the Hillary Group)
We believe in Planned Parenthood and reproductive rights for all women. We trust Hillary to protect those rights so that in the event either one of our grand daughters ever need to terminate a pregnancy, they may do so without a coat hanger in a back alley.
We believe in a strong work ethic. We worked our way through college back when minimum wage was 90 cents an hour and tuition was 1200 a year not counting books and fees. Our children worked their way though with a little help from us and we expect the same for our grand daughters. I am all for making college more affordable and capping the interest rate on student loans, however, should either one of our grand daughters take out loans, we expect them to pay those back in good faith. If it takes them six years instead of four years to graduate then so be it. We don't believe that in our late 60's and early 70's that we are responsible for others' college tuition.
We believe in Social Security and have worked for over 50 years to be able to retire and draw that comfortably. We know that Hillary will never allow the privatization of Social Security. It will be there for us until we shed our skins so that our children can take care of their own families and not have to worry about us.
We love our current health insurance. Yes, it may cost us a pretty penny but in the last 15 years of cancer treatments, screenings, surgery, medicine, we have not laid out of pocket more than about $600.00. We never pay for usual/common medicines or antibiotics since those are covered by our insurance. One of us is on Medicare and I can assure you that they have never laid out one penny for anything so no, we do not want a "medicare for all" insurance plan. We do not want Medicare deciding whether or not I should be able to get that hip replaced. That should be between myself, the doctor and the insurance I pay for. Those who want that are welcome pay for it but we want our insurance company to stay in business so we can continue to do business with them.
We believe in the stock market because one of us has a pension all tied up in Wall Street and yes we have a small 401K. That is our retirement because quite frankly, Social Security is just not enough. We expect Hillary to keep her hands off of my State Teachers Retirement and our 401K because after all, it is our money. We put it there and we will damn sure get it back when we are ready for it. We trust Hillary to leave our retirement money alone.
We believe in free and fair trade. We agree that trade agreements need to be redefined, reworked, and maybe a few done away with. We trust Hillary to do this to the best of her abilities.
We believe that Black Lives Matter because one of our grand daughters is Black and her life damn sure matters to us. Miss Ebony wants to study fashion design and business in college then move to New York City to make her way in that world. We don't want that door to be slammed in her face because her skin is not white. We don't want her to be driving somewhere, be pulled over and die in a jail cell simply because she is Black. We trust Hillary to work hard within the criminal justice system to fix some very broken things. We know that Hillary can not change hearts and minds, no one can, but there are things that can be done within the current system.
We believe in gay and lesbian rights and that right to love and marry who you choose. We trust Hillary to protect those rights.
We believe in equal pay for women and that women have a right to make as much money as they want to whether they are giving speeches to banks or working at the local strip club. Powerful and well paid women make a powerful and productive country.
We believe that all people of all races, except for criminals and terrorists have a right to live productively and peacefully in America. We trust Hillary to work as hard as possible to reform immigration policies.
We believe in protecting our country from those who want to hurt us both outside and inside the borders. We do not believe in unnecessary wars but we do believe in a reasonably strong military. We trust her to protect America and American interests.
We have, for over 50 years, always paid our taxes on time and without regret. We believe that paying taxes is patriotic but we do not believe that we should pay more than our fair share, especially in retirement. We trust that if Hillary
raises taxes, it will be on those making lots of money and not on the middle class.
We know that Hillary is not perfect. We know that she is liberal/progressive in some areas and more moderate in others. So are we. No one is perfect and no one gets everything they want. We know that Hillary has changed, evolved and grown over the years.
So have we. We want a president who evolves and compromises, not a president who is constantly angry and stagnant.

(8,000 posts)I support her for all those reasons and because she stands with teachers. My husband is a retired teacher and my daughter is a special ed teacher. I have rarely said negative things about President Obama, but I think Arne Duncan was the worst cabinet member he had, a terrible choice. He hurt education, hard working teachers and children more than anyone could ever know. I trust Hillary to listen to teachers.

(30,058 posts)Many of the issues you named which are near and dear to my heart. I share your thoughts on Medicare for all, I have Medicare but I not for my Medigap policy I would be in sure straights. I soul like to see ACA improved and to get close to national health insurance but even the it will not be free. There is a premium for Part B and D, it is not free.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS
calling Bernie sanders "constantly angry and stagnant" is a personal attack. This needs to be deleted.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Fri Mar 11, 2016, 12:07 PM, and the Jury voted 0-7 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Aw geez, another one of these.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Other than an infomercial for HRC with rose colored glasses I say leave it.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I am a Bernie supporter. This is in the Hillary group. Let them wallow and squirm like worms in their own repugnant lies and smears for all to see.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Big Bernie supporter here, but I don't think "constantly angry and stagnant" is a personal attack against other members but a critique (however inaccurate) of a political opponent. Thus, it falls under "free speech," although I disagree with it.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: SHAME ON YOU!
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

(5,049 posts)If it weren't so tragic it would be laughable. A post that broadly outlines agreed upon Democratic ideals, supports on of two legitimate Presidental candidates and NEVER mentions her challenger gets alerted?
Maybe this place should be renamed BSUnderground - and the BS doesn't stand for Berne Sanders.

I do this real moron thing, and it's called thinking. And apparently I'm not a very good American because I like to form my own opinions.

God damn the HRC supporters for not toeing the line and making up their own minds!

(213 posts)I agree totally. Or almost. I love Medicare, but I am fortunate enough to have supplemental insurance as well. And for one of my relatives, Medicare is all she has so she is grateful.
Perfection is not attainable, but striving for perfection is noble.
Go Hillary!

(5,049 posts)of Democratic values. It's great to be reminded what we Democrats are really fighting for in this country. I watched all eleven hours of the congresses Bengazi grilling. I learned everything I needed to know about Sec. Clinton by watching her unflinching grace and strength under pressure.

(2,100 posts)But still a beautifully written manifesto. I especially agree with the very last sentence. I also believe we need a Democrat in the White House who is canny in politics and knows how to play the game. Republicans have proved over the last eight years that they are the enemy and Hillary has more experience dealing with this than anyone on Earth. What other candidate could do a better job dealing with them? Her demeanor during the laughable Benghazi hearings was the epitome of presidential. Her experience as a very successful Secretary of State puts her miles above any other candidate.
We have been so inundated by the right with the suggestion that Hillary is unlikeable, untrustworthy, scandal-ridden, that some people, even here on DU, have bought into it. It sometimes takes a bit of mental discipline to ignore that insidious right wing rumor mongering and sit down for a moment and look at the facts. Those facts add up to Hillary for President. I'm with her.
