Hillary Clinton

... ever thinking to yourself: " if Hillary Clinton is not the Democratic nominee, I'm just going to give up and not lift a finger to keep Trump and the Republicans out of the White House"? I can't. Just a late night, before sleep thought.

(6,280 posts)... and yes it is. That is why I do not believe the "chaff" are really Democrats, and even if they are, they are not deserving of the title. They are only competing to be a twisted version of the "Bestest Liberal In the World".
Anyone who equates either of the Democratic candidates to republicans, including Donald Trump, are either lying to everyone, lying to themselves, or they need to talk to this young lady...

I think for the B or B kids, a lot of them are maybe spoiled rich kids who don't know what loss is much less what it is to have something real on the line. But whatever, I've watched Sanders enough to see more than I'd like to and enough of Clinton to earn my respect and admiration. I prefer substance with style. I don't care what's fashionable and if I have to I can live with voting against Republicans.

There are very few choices in this world that are truly black or white, up or down, yea or nay. Today, in 2016, with the threat of Trump and the promise of the Supreme Court, this is one of them. Full stop.

(1,630 posts)are doomed to repeat it.Truer words have never been spoken about their sentiment and the outcome it would lead to.
What we have observed in this election is an enormous amount of revisionist history going on. There are so many anti Democratic threads that it is impossible to keep up. It is only from the protected sanctity of the freedoms we fought for and now enjoy that there are those who would claim the two parties have the same ideals. They did not live through or remember what it was like to live without the basic rights we have so painstakingly achieved. I am convinced their intentions are sincere but they simply do not know. Even worse, some seem to think those of us who would tell them otherwise are blinded by the same degree of devotion to our candidate that they are to theirs. No. Most of us are not. We will fight to the end for either Democratic candidate because we know and have lived through just how bad the alternative would be.
Many of the supporters who seem the most unhinged truly believe the half truths upon which they are basing their protest. No matter how much "research" they are claiming to do, it is immediately apparent that some of what they find is either of the confirmation bias variety, woefully uninformed or from untrustworthy sources. That is one of the frustrations for many who have lived through and remember just how very different any of our Democratic candidates are from the Republicans and certainly from Trump.
I cannot subject the people of this country to another Republican regime. I cannot subject this country or, for that matter, the people of the world to Trump. And, I will fight like hell to protect the same people who would throw Hillary and the rest of the nation under the bus from having to live with the consequences of their reckless actions. Sometimes I feel like a parent trying to prevent a child from hurting themselves.

(15,951 posts)many of the Sanders supporters on DU are not DEMOCRATS they are people who voted for socialists, greens and other progressive parties but not necessarily democrats. They are some of the people who decided Al Gore wasn't pure enough so they voted for Ralph Nader in 2000. So I'm not surprised that many of them say they will not vote for Hillary Clinton.

But Democrats always do this stupid stuff. In 1992, the economy was a disaster. After 8 successful years, we got fat and happy. Surely the Republicans couldn't ruin everything again. Then here comes Ralph Nader. He's saying things we like. Screw it, Al Gore is too moderate. I'm going with the hippy, because Gore is just a corporatist.
Everyone remembers Florida, because the election was stolen there by the Bush brothers. Yes, if the Nader voters had voted for Gore, he would have won Florida. But on the other hand, that state was always going to be tough because you can bet even if Gore had come out ahead, the state Republican apparatus was going to create a mess and try to cheat.
But New Hampshire...that one red dot in a sea of northeastern blue. That was because of Nader. He got almost 4% of the vote in a state Gore lost by a little over a percentage point. Because, screw it...right. Gore wasn't perfect. So a pox on all their houses.
And that got us:
1) largest terrorist attack on US soil. Now, I'm not one to blame Bush for that, but I do know Al Gore would have taken it more seriously.
2) 2 wars, unpaid for. Thousands of dead American soldiers.
3) ISIS. Because those morons in the Bush administration somehow didn't realize that disbanding the Iraqi Army was a bad idea.
4) New Orleans abandoned by the federal government.
5) We didn't get stem cell research for 8 years. Now we're making all these breakthroughs, they could have happened a decade ago. How many people could have been positively impacted?
6) We had to deal with no climate change policy. How much damage was done to the earth?
7) Total economic collapse.
And I'm sure I'm missing other things.
But Obama, who is far from perfect, largely because he's human like everyone else, has done a lot to alleviate that. We are at full employment, the economy is growing. There are still problems. Wages are stagnant, debt is still a major issue.
So what do we do? We see a small minority threaten to once again say a pox on all their houses. Why? Because the Democratic candidate is not perfect on every issue...which makes her the same as a Republican...somehow. So they'll vote for the green party, naively.
They'll let the perfect be the enemy of the good, again. And you know what they'll get?
1) A Republican appointing 2 or 3 Supreme Court justices. Forget Row v. Wade...and choice, it'll be gone.
2) The environment will get destroyed as the EPA doesn't regulate anything.
3) They'll repeal Obamacare, and we'll lose healthcare coverage for millions that have been helped. People will die.
4) They'll start some war you haven't even thought of yet, because Republicans always do that.
5) They'll cut taxes for the wealthiest Americans. They'll lower corporate taxes. The deficits will grow out of control while the income gap widens.
But what the hell....none of that matters. Hillary gave a speech on Wall Street and didn't release the transcripts. THAT'S what really matters.

They did major voter suppression in Florida and culled names of mainly black voters who had the same or similar names of convicted felons. Also in Ohio, they had long lines at precincts that were expected to be voting for Gore because they purposely didn't supply enough ballot machines.
MSMITH33156
(879 posts)but Republicans cheat, that's what they do. That's what all these voter ID laws are about now. We can fight them in court on that, which we do.
But in the meantime, we can control who we vote for. And particularly New Hampshire in 2000 was bad, given Nader's percentage, and the ease with which Gore won the rest of the northeast. That was the one state where the wound was entirely self-inflicted.
