Facing a close run against Bernie Sanders in upcoming primary races, former Secretary of State and current Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton is beginning to show the bare knuckles of the brawler she needs be to win. Following a campaign rally at the State University of New York Purchase campus on Thursday, Greenpeace activist Eva Resnick-Day asked Hillary if she would reject donations from fossil fuel interests, and Clinton laid into her but good:

(15,502 posts)The Sanders campaign's response has some of the qualities I have come to detest from it: snark, midsdirection and disingenuousness.
Its no wonder that back in December Clinton refused to agree to stop accepting money from the fossil fuel industry when pressed at a town hall, saying, Im not going to do a litmus test on them, Sanders spokesman Michael Briggs said in a statement. If Secretary Clinton wants to discuss this and other important issues she should stop stalling and agree to a debate in New York before the April 19 primary election.
What I have to say to this would get me a hide.

Frankly, I am an old-style "liberal" and am very proud to be that, thank you.
Thank heavens there is an "amnesty" for the time being. Your voice is a powerful one, ss2, and it deserves to be heard (or read)!

Such fear not only borders on paranoia. It IS paranoia.

Bernie's campaign lies about Clinton relying heavily on oil and gas donations. I would also include Greenpeace lying about it too.
BlueMTexpat
(15,502 posts)facts about the donations it says the Clinton campaign has received. IMO, they are making some very broad brush assumptions to put the worst possible spin on them in a blatant attempt to smear Clinton and reap headlines for the organization and perhaps also for Bernie.
Such antics make them lose credibility with me. Bernie's campaign has already lost a lot of credibility with me and the little credibility it has left is fast diminishing.

I expect to get excoriated but today is kind of my Stand Up For Hillary Day!
After the glaring differences between Hillary and her angry opponents were exposed last night by Rachel Maddow and Chris Matthews, I decided that I could take a little bit firmer tone today too.
How would the Sanders people like it if we attended their rallies and started shouting misleading questions at them? I am not a Trump fan, but to some extent he has a point that it's not always his people who start these confrontations. They are angry, easily provokable, and respond in an unacceptably violent manner, but I don't think they always create the drama themselves.

jftr - I inherited a couple of oil wells (1/8th int) from my Mother, who inherited them from her Mother, who inherited them from her Mother. They were drilled in the 1930s. Does that make me part of the fossil fuel industry? Hardly... I have also donated to Greenpeace.
I am so sick and tired of simpletons.

(67,782 posts)....$50 and $100 only require occupation. Contributions below $50 don't require either, in fact I don't even think they require the name of the contributor.
Funny how the Sanders people constantly beat on Clinton's source of contributions but they can't document tens of millions of contributions at all.
Also funny is how the Sanders people talk about "foreign money" but they've been cited several times for accepting hundreds of contributions from people with foreign addresses.

(2,897 posts)Sanders strategy is to demonize and not personalize. By saying (hard working) individuals contributed, he undercuts his outright demonization of people that work in certain fields. He does it with wall street, oil, and health care. I have friends that were liberal democrats that went into Banking/consulting/investing after college (Yale) because that was the only reasonable way of paying student loans and making a nice paycheck for grad school. Yet according to Sanders, a man whose only steady job has been politician, they are the devils that are ruining this country.

BTW, I lost patience with Greenpeace when they declined to take an active role in opposing the senseless slaughter of marine mammals.
