''I don't believe in charities,'' said Mayor Sanders, bringing a shocked silence to a packed hotel banquet room. The Mayor, who is a Socialist, went on to question the ''fundamental concepts on which charities are based'' and contended that government, rather than charity organizations, sho uld take over responsibilit y for social programs.
Governor Snelling sought to counter Mr. Sanders' remarks, saying: ''Charity is not a dirty word. We have discovered that you can't buy caring.''

(9,722 posts)Socialists do not believe in charity, as they believe it's the government's responsibility to take care of everyone. Nonetheless, most of the Clintons' charity goes to very poor countries that don't have adequate resources to solve their problems. Bernie's campaign's denigration of the Clinton Foundation is beyond contempt.

(100,133 posts)So their take on the subject is suspect at best. There's a lot of things wrong with the official government system, but scamming the vets for money isn't one of them.

(73,796 posts)my brother is a wilderness guide in cali. he is very active, and his chapter is very active taking disabled vets on fishing and hiking trips.
but hiking and fishing is a poor substitute for effective treatment for ptsd.
they do have too high of an overhead. but they do do good things. they would be a fine supplement for good benefits for vets, but they are a very poor substitute.

(100,133 posts)...exponentially. What happened during BushCheney made me sick to my stomach, most especially the separate system for National Guard troops who got warehoused at places like Fort Knox. That any part of the failures that were exposed then still exist is a national disgrace.

(19,570 posts)Trump actually has given millions to charity. Bernie is going to look bad against Trump on this matter. That is sad because Trump as a whole is just terrible.

Well, I'll keep quiet, but I had though I couldn't think any less of him.
I was wrong. Touche Bernie.
There's no reason to dismiss charity, like, why?
