Progressive ideas need to be pushed through organizing the party and pushing legislation, not outsider rebellion
Excerpts:
Clinton herself is part of this trend, with a Senate record that put her in the top third of most liberal Democrats, and even to the left of President Obama. Shes certainly more liberal than her husband, in part because her career as a politician started when his ended, meaning that shes tracked left as the party has on issues like gay marriage and immigration. No wonder she voted with Sanders 93% of the time.
In other words, Sanders didnt make what he calls socialism an acceptable idea to a good chunk of the electorate, as Mitchell would have you believe. On the contrary, theres been a long, if boring, takeover of the Democratic party by the liberal wing, represented by Clinton and Obama, and Sanders is reaping the benefit of the mainstreaming of liberalism.
While the Sanders base is appealingly young, there is a major problem with the assumption that his base represents some kind of demographic future: They arent particularly diverse. On the contrary, the Sanders base looks disturbingly like the Republican base, dominated by white men. Clinton has won women in all but three states: New Hampshire, Vermont, and Wisconsin, and in Wisconsin, Sanders only got 50% of women. Clinton continues to crush with black voters and is doing much better than Sanders with Hispanic voters, as well.

(11,746 posts)As is the radical right it turns out. Trump isn't "conservative." He's, as David Frum said yesterday, a random walk. But he is a stick in the "conservative" eye.
The radical left is jealous, as they ought to be.
many do not actually know what "leftist" means.

(11,746 posts)I don't really know what they are, other than whiners. But I suppose they're human. Keeping people together, no matter how homogeneous, seems to always be like herding cats.
Sorry for the trite metaphor but it rings true.

Swarming SDs, interfering with results of caucuses/primaries when they don't like the voting outcomes, and name-calling HRC supporters (e.g., sell-outs, corporatists, neocons, etc.) when they know absolutely nothing about us.
Some of the worst name-callers are probably even now attending university without having to get student loans because we (corporatist shills, etc.) far-sightedly set up 529 accounts or trusts for them or are otherwise paying the bills.
They see no irony whatsoever in that.

They are.
They seem very cranky; but, do not seem to have a good reason.

Bernie Sanders has been serving up a hash of outdated ideology and pie-in-the-sky promises to the most gullible and the most immature voters. He is the mirror image of the GOP's Trump. Ranting, insulting his opponents and inferring that he will have kingly powers if elected. Neither has ever done anything of note for anyone but themselves.

About Bernie, until recently, I liked him and was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. But his campaign antics in NV were finally the last straw for me. If they hadn't been, his "unqualified" remark about Hillary would have done it. What has happened since then has really opened my eyes to what you are saying about his being the mirror-image of Trump. Although many others have said essentially that in different ways all along, I really wasn't ready to believe it. Now I do.
