Breach of Trust: Why Bernie's Foot-Dragging on Tax Returns Raises Serious Concerns

There is only one candidate, Republican or Democrat, who has been more opaque when it comes to allowing the American people to see their tax returns than Bernie Sanders: Donald Trump.

Bernie Sanders, who has made it his business to police other people's transparency practices, has released full tax returns tax returns for... zero years, though he released the summary for a single year, 2014. Compared to Sanders, John Kasich is more transparent (having released seven years of partial returns). Even Ted Cruz (who released four years of partial returns) has shown more commitment to transparency than Bernie.

Hillary Clinton has walloped the entire field and is the only candidate to have released her full tax returns for every year since 2001.

For a while, Donald Trump held the record for the most ridiculous excuse ever not to release returns: that his returns are "under audit", which a publication no less conservative that Forbes points out is not an actual reason to hold back one's tax returns.

Move over, Donald. Bernie Sanders' wife and tax preparer Jane Sanders went on Bloomberg on Monday and came up with this excuse as to why Sen. and Mrs. Sanders have not yet released any of their full tax returns, which Mrs. Sanders said she filed using Intuit's tax preparation software Turbo Tax. ... http://www.thepeoplesview.net/

Let me help you out there, Jane. Turbo Tax keeps full copies of your tax returns from previous years on record, on their servers. You log in, and viola! You have years of tax returns saved waiting for you to download and release to the media.

Also, there's another entity that is holding onto the copies of your tax return. The Internal Revenue Service. The tax transcripts for four years are free, and a copy of the full tax return only costs $57 - or roughly two average-sized donations to the Bernie Sanders campaign - and copies are generally available for six years.

Actually, given the bern-rate, I mean burn rate of the impressive amounts of cash Bernie Sanders is hauling in, he might still be hard pressed for that $57. I have an idea. Let's raise the money for him. It will cost $342 for Bernie and Jane Sanders to release six years of their returns, so if Jane Sanders can't find the returns on her own and the campaign is too cash strapped to pay for it, let's do it for them.

And then there's also this: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2016/4/8/1512677/-For-the-Love-of-All-That-is-Good-DO-NOT-Use-Turbo-Tax-This-Year

We've already filed in 2016. Bur we may have committed the unforgivable. We used TurboTax.

They should have thought of that before Sanders threw his hat in the ring.

4. Bernie Sanders wife Jane says she can’t produce any of his tax returns

The saga of Bernie Sanders and his missing tax returns just keeps getting curiouser and curiouser. Presidential candidates typically release several years of returns in order to show good faith to voters. Sanders is under increasing scrutiny due to his unwillingness to release his tax records for any year other than 2014, raising questions as to what he may or may not be hiding in past years. Recently he blamed his wife, saying she handles them. Now she’s saying they’re… somewhere in the house.

Last week Bernie Sanders punted on the question when asked by CNN’s Jake Tapper: “You know who does our tax returns? My wife does our tax returns. We have been a little bit busy lately.” It seemed a bit odd for him to be blaming his wife on the matter, but she opted to play along. Jane Sanders says they’ll be released in full at some point, but for now she says she can’t produce them. Her excuse is that she hasn’t been home in two weeks.

It’s a surreal answer, considering she could have sent someone from the campaign to go get them, or have taken a moment to obtain copies from the federal government at any point during this year-long campaign in which they knew they’d eventually get asked. Is it a stall tactic aimed at keeping the tax records hidden until after next week’s crucial New York primary, because there are details in the records that could hurt him? Is it possible that Jane simply can’t find the tax returns as she claims and doesn’t have the sense to do anything about it, even as the controversy swirls around her husband’s campaign? The saga continues.

...somehow is an excuse to file her taxes late and not release the others? What does selling her mother's condo have to do with releasing previous years complete tax returns from before 2014? What does it have to do with Jane and BS' taxes? Did they profit from it? Were they co-owners? What??

Jane is just as evasive about their tax returns as her hubby has continuously been.

According to Peter Daou and Money Market, they're hiding the very plausible fact that they, themselves, are millionaires. Not bad for a guy who never had a job in the private sector and finally got a steady paycheck when, after seven desperate tries, got into gov't and became Mayor of a tiny city.

Democrats are just lucky that the majority of our base isn't stupid enough to be taken in by a cheesy con man like Bernie or Donald.
