When Pope Francis Testified About the Dirty War--The New Republic--3/14/2013

http://www.newrepublic.com/article/112656/pope-francis-and-argentinas-dirty-war-what-he-knew#

While the world has generally welcomed the Catholic Church's selection of the Argentine Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio as pope, one large and dark question hangs over his ascension: As the head of the Jesuit order during Argentina’s last dictatorship, was he complicit with the military regime that kidnapped, tortured, and murdered thousands of its citizens?

... by betraying liberation theology.

No one expected him to become a guerilla, but he could have at least voiced opposition to the cruelty of the regime. There are some Latin American cardinals and bishops that were not involved with liberation theology or the Catholic left-wing, but still tried to do something. And some of them, did a lot and saved thousands of lives. Our new pope chose the easier path.
