Chilean police say they arrested a man for allegedly spitting on presidential candidate Michelle Bachelet during a campaign event in the north of the country.

Local newspaper La Tercera says the unidentified man spat on the former president Tuesday while she waved at sympathizers in the Arica region. Campaign officials say the event continued.

Bachelet is the frontrunner in the Nov. 17 presidential election. She spent the past two years heading the U.N. agency for women after ending her 2006-10 presidency with high popularity ratings.

She vows to use a second term to fight Chile's stubborn income inequality and reform taxes and education.

Right-wing qualities always make themselves known. This spit meister probably was one of the torturers who worked night and day on Michelle Bachelet, a very young woman, or her mother, or her father, high-ranking officer of Salvador Allende's military, as they suffered in US-supported fascist Pinochet's prisons where her father died from a heart attack.

What a shame they are still around.

Here's an interview she gave in Australia, in which she said he moved there and became an Australian citizen.

She also said that her father, also named Alberto, died as a result of the torture at the hands of the Pinochet torturers.

The interview:

(I'm glad to have learned the brother survived the US-supported Pinochet nightmare.

Sad to know it was Richard M. Nixon and Kissinger and the CIA who pulled off this hideous coup and monstrous long-lasting war crime against the human race using US taxpayers' hard-earned tax dollars.)
