The US government is planning to finance and produce a radio soap opera as part of a psy-ops mission to convince individual rebels of the FARC to demobilize.

A public solicitation by the U.S. Army’s Southern Command revealed the army is looking for a private contractor to produce a “radio novella” of 20 episodes, eight of which “shall convey messages that promote demobilization,” another eight “hall convey messages that counter recruitment of target audiences (TAs) into illegal armed groups.”

Four (4) episodes series shall focus on following:

• Promote traditional family values
• Belief in the respectful treatment of women
• Democratic alternatives to violence that can furnish functioning state institutions
• Emerging environmental concerns.

“The purpose of developing a twenty (20) episode radio novella is to address the issues of demobilization, counter-recruitment, traditional family values, belief in the respectful treatment of women, democratic alternatives to violence that can furnish functioning state institutions, and emerging environmental concerns in support of U.S. and partner nation goals in Colombia,” the US Army said.

Episode 6

- a remix of Rivers of Light “Do not miss this Christmas. Colombia and your family are waiting for you. Demobilize At Christmas — everything is possible.”

Dec 12, 2011
The Colombia army set adrift hundreds of illuminating balls in the country’s main jungle rivers to convince FARC guerrillas to demobilize before Christmas.

The operation, dubbed “Rivers of Light” was developed with British public relations company Lowe and Partners and groups of former FARC guerrillas to ascertain key river routes used by FARC for their transportation in different parts of Colombia, a press release by the British company said.

According to Lowe and Partners, “Army, Navy and Air Force kicked off this operation in order to carry messages and gifts from relatives and friends of FARC guerrillas, inviting them to demobilize for Christmas. The emotional messages and gifts were placed in hundreds of transparent, illuminated plastic balls, transported in boats and helicopters to be ignited and released in different rivers, known to be frequented by FARC.”

The operation was performed by one army detachment (15 soldiers), 4 piranha boats from the Navy and 24 of its soldiers, and one black hawk helicopter from the Air Force and its crew.

How much good did their "rivers of light" do the environment, you have to wonder.

It seems more like PR for the Colombian gov't, making them appear to be kindly, rather than the same people who have used the para death squads to handle all the dirty work, and utilized "false positives" to instill terror in the rural population.

All that plastic crap in Colombian streams, rivers, and in the trees no doubt was paid for by the US taxpayers, of course, completely contrary to any sensible person's wishes.
