Honduran Doctors Back On Strike
TEGUCIGALPA, Nov 6 (BERNAMA-NNN-PRENSA LATINA) -- Honduran doctors went back on strike indefinitely after talks with the government failed, saying that their demands were not met.
As part of their protests, doctors will also hold informational assemblies at their offices and administrative areas in public hospitals.
The doctors have been negotiating with public health authorities for three weeks. Doctors are demanding higher pay and back pay for doctors who are owed months' worth of salary.
The president of the Honduran Medical Association, Elmer Mayes, said that doctors have been asking for 10 years for bonuses to retired professionals.
They are also demanding that hospitals be supplied with adequate medicine and other items that are out of reach for low-income patients who go to public hospitals.
The strike signifies the cancellation of some 23,000 medical consultations daily.
