Extraditions of ex-cops to Argentina may go forward following Cabinet’s move
Argentinean judge is investigating two former officers for torture in the 1960s and 1970s

The Cabinet on Friday agreed to allow the extradition process to continue against two former Spanish police officials who are wanted in Argentina, where a judge is conducting an investigation into human rights crimes committed during the Franco dictatorship.
The government’s action allows the High Court to carry out its proceedings against Juan Antonio González Pacheco, known as “Billy the Kid,” who is wanted for allegedly torturing 13 people between 1971 and 1975, and former civil guard Jesús Muñecas Aguilar, who is wanted for torturing people at the Zarautz prison in Gipuzkoa in 1968 and 1969.
The Cabinet’s decision is merely a procedure and doesn’t mean that the two former security officers will be handed over to Argentina.
Buenos Aires Judge María Servini had also asked for the extraditions of two other men, including one who served as King Juan Carlos’s bodyguard, but they have since died.
High Court Judge Pablo Ruz will decide whether González and Muñecas should be extradited.
