Peruvian, Bolivian Presidents To Meet On Port Project
LIMA, Feb 14 (BERNAMA- NNN-ANDINA) -- Peruvian President Ollanta Humala and his Bolivian counterpart Evo Morales will meet in Lima this month to discuss the potential use of Peruvian ports for Bolivia's exports and imports.
Morales, who will arrive in Lima on Feb 27, said Wednesday that talks to ship his country's exports via the southern ports of Peru are "well advanced".
During their meeting, both presidents are expected to focus on establishing mechanisms that will speed up and facilitate the use of Peruvian ports for Bolivia's foreign trade.
Bolivia has expressed its intention to gradually move the transport of freight that enters and leaves the landlocked country via Chile to the ports in Peru.
The Feb 27 meeting between Humala and Morales will also focus on the construction of a mega port on the coast of the southern Peruvian province of Ilo.
The construction of this port aims at reducing time and distance in the Bolivian exports to western countries, Morales said in a recent statement.
