Relatives of La Planta inmates not allowed to talk to the media
Relatives of La Planta prison inmates were prohibited to talk with the media because, according to Minister of Penitentiary Services Iris Varela, any contact with the press undermines efforts to transfer inmates to other jails and their likely release under procedural benefits.
A police and military cordon was set up on Thursday morning about 550 yards from La Planta prison, located in El Paraíso neighborhood, southwest Caracas.
National Guard troops and National Bolivarian Police officers prevented the media from getting near the prison, southwest Caracas.
