Brazil's leader vetoes portions of new forest law

Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff used her line-item veto powers on a congressional bill that weakened the nation's benchmark environmental law protecting the Amazon.

Rousseff removed 12 articles from the bill, among them sections environmentalists feared would most lead to increased destruction of the rainforest.

The bill passed congress last month after more than a decade of efforts by Brazil's powerful agricultural lobby to make changes to what was one of the world's toughest environmental laws.

Environmentalists wanted Rousseff to veto the entire bill. But the measure won wide support in the nation's congress, and a full veto would have caused a political backlash for the president in the legislature, trapping several other, unrelated measures.

Only the scum of the earth would EVER be so lost in greed they'd want to tear up something as important as the rainforests of this planet. There is nothing which could fill that deadly void.

These people have had too much power far too long, have killed too many people who tried to prevent further destruction of the physical world we need.

Something needs to be done to sever their ties to the world's legislators who spend their lives stealing our world for their sponsors.

Dilma Rousseff of course will have gained a lot of enemies with this courageous action. She already knows about the worst of
"human" nature, since the fascist right-wing already held her prisoner and tortured her unmercifully during the military dictatorship.

She is far braver than those who would wish her harm. People everywhere owe her thanks for her spirit and courage.
