Human Rights Groups Proposes to March by Morandé 80 in Memory of Allende

Human Rights Groups Proposes to March by Morandé 80 in Memory of Allende
September 03 16:04 2014

SANTIAGO — When Augusto Pinochet took over power in Chile in the Military Coup on the infamous September 11, 1973, they defeated Salvador Allende, who didn’t just lose his position as President; he also lost his life.

This historical event is being remembered every year in a march, which used to pass the Morandé 80 entrance of La Moneda, the Presidential Palace.

But in 2006 the Government forbid the marchers to pass the entrance, as the palace was attacked with a Molotov cocktail, which was thrown by masked men.

Three weeks ago, the AFDD asked for permission to arrange the march as they do every year. Along with this, they also asked for permission to yet again walk by the Morandé 80 to remember Salvador Allende. They have been asking the past seven years, but every year the request has been denied.
