Since replacing his late mentor in April 2013, Maduro has overseen the worst bond returns in emerging markets, with the countrys dollar debt posting a loss of 8.7 percent. Thats a complete reversal of the Chavez presidency, when the nations debt returned an average 16 percent annually over 14 years, generating a total return of 692 percent that dwarfed the 387 percent earned on developing-nation debt, data compiled by JPMorgan Chase & Co. show.

Chavez had lots of charisma; he was able to transmit empathy, Bianca Taylor, a sovereign debt analyst at Loomis Sayles & Co. LP, said by phone from Boston. Nicolas Maduro doesnt have the charisma, he doesnt have the support of government and he doesnt have the support of Congress. And without that, its difficult to take the decisions he needs to take. He has been unable to govern because he lacks the strong leadership.

(14,732 posts)1. He has also been unable to govern because he is
intellectually totally unprepared, to put it kindly. Just another Chavez wannabe who got the brass ring for the time being. But look carefully - in the wings - Diosdado is patiently waiting for things to get bad enough that he (with the support of the Army) can step in to "save the Bolivarian Revolution".

(6,837 posts)2. Agreed, but lets not forget this is how Hugo left the country
Telling his supporters to vote for Nikito. Nikito is trying to govern Ven as he believes Chavez would. He can't create his own governance style (not that that would be a good idea) since chavistas would accuse him of blasphemy.
I think Godgiven Hair rule is inevitable.
