Venezuela surreal prices

http://widerimage.reuters.com/story/venezuelas-surreal-prices

Chavistas emphasize that Venezuelans don't get paid in dolars so here is an example of what prices cost in Bs, the official exchange rate, and the minimum wage.

------------------------
The government of President Nicolas Maduro says the country's minimum wage of Bs. 4,252 is the highest in the region when converted to $675 using the official exchange rate. However, the galloping black market for currency actually rates it at just $42.50 when converted at the street rate of Bs. 100 per US dollar.

A box of 36 coloured pencils sells for $115, equivalent to Bs. 725.

A 50 lb. (22.7 kg) bag of Purina Dog Chow costsf $272, equivalent to Bs. 1,716.

A pair of Levi's 501 jeans costs $793, equivalent to Bs. 4,999. A pair of jeans is more than the monthly wage.

A hairdryer costs $697, equivalent to Bs. 4,392. About the same as the MW.
