Victoria Montenegro, head of the National Coordination Unit for the Prevention and Eradication of Violence Against Women, captured an incident on video this afternoon in which Macri militants wearing his trademark yellow "Let's Change" and "Macri for President" T-shirts accosted the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo.
The verbal epithets launched against the women, many of them in the 80s and 90s, included references to "guerrillas" and calls to "kick them out" of the historic Plaza de Mayo square.
The human rights organization headed by Montenegro repudiated the attack, declaring on Twitter that "perhaps the "revolution of joy" militants (in reference to Macri's campaign slogan) do not know that today is International Human Rights Day. The Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo have been marching for justice for almost 40 years, and are a symbol around the world for that struggle. If you live in a democracy, it is thanks to these women."

They didn't let nightsticks stop them during the dictatorship:
They're certainly not going to let anyone to stop them with insults.

(160,527 posts)To be taunted now by another fascist is evil.
Knowing the US-supported dictatorship even sent spies into their group who then turned some of them into the dictatorship, had them imprisoned, had them murdered, some, like the French nuns, found swept in from the ocean after being thrown out of an airplane, it should be impossible for people to harass them now.
But fascists are not like human beings. They are far, far below human standards.
Bet these parents, sisters, other relatives of murdered political prisoners never imagined the fascists, once defeated, would ever be allowed into power again.
It's the largest struggle in life, the one between good and evil. Good will win. It will just take longer than a lot of us had hoped.
Thank you, forest444.
(I believe the lady in the upper photo, on the left, is the grandmother of the stolen baby who grew up with another family, who was just recently located and returned to meet her. Is she the one?)

(5,902 posts)As you may know, Judi, the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo marched every Thursday from 1977 until 2005 - when after two years of unwavering support from President Néstor Kirchner for justice, they themselves decided to discontinue their iconic marches.
Following these incidents, however, and following hints from President Macri that prosecutions will no longer be pursued, their longtime leader Hebe de Bonafini declared that their Thursday marches will now resume. A post to follow, of course.
To your question about the photo, I can tell you that neither lady is Estela Barnes de Carlotto (the longtime president of the Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo, whose grandson, Ignacio, was located last year). Is she the one you're referring to?
What I can tell you about the photo is that it was taken during the October 5, 1982, March for Life organized by the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo (Mrs. Carlotto heads the Grandmothers, who did not participate in said march). Here's Mrs. Carlotto around that time:
Thanks as always for your voice and your insights. That's what they themselves always asked most from people.

(160,527 posts)It's easy to recognize her as a younger woman, no doubt about it. I had only seen her in photos taken in the last few years, never during the Dirty War. She's a strong, courageous, devoted woman. I respect her and the others so much, as they have lived through horrors, and hard times unlike ANYTHING people of similar backgrounds have ever gone through here. Much bigger inside, deeper, wiser.
