Ecuador: Correa’s sacking of top generals sparks opposition protests

Ecuador: Correa’s sacking of top generals sparks opposition protests

Feb Friday 12th 2016

RIGHTWINGERS protested across Ecuador on Wednesday following President Rafael Correa’s sacking of the country’s four top generals for issuing statements on “administrative matters.”

Head of the joint chiefs of staff General Luis Garzon had condemned the government on Twitter for fining the army pension fund and “taking resources away from ... soldiers and their families.”

Marches and rallies by opposition supporters were, however, dwarfed by counter-demonstrations by supporters of Mr Correa’s socialist Pais Alliance government.

“Soldiers can have certainty over their pensions,” Mr Correa said. “Our armed forces are very important for the country, but they are not the whole country.”

It sure does sound as if the fascists are hard at it still. They won't give up. Judi Lynn Feb 2016 #2

...and does he have the right and duty to ensure that they obey his orders, and to fire them if they don't?

Well, that's the way it works in any democracy!

The history of military overthrows of democratically elected governments in Latin America is very troubling, as is U.S. complicity in such coups. I'm glad that President Correa is acting swiftly and strongly to remedy disobedience to his orders and any threat of coup.

As for the rightwing in Ecuador, they can protest all they want. They did absolutely nothing for Ecuadorans when they were in power. Indeed, they were uniquely talented at creating mayhem and instability. Sounds like they're still at it.

They undoubtedly have an endless chain of schemes ready to implement, since their police coup failed.

That probably really chapped their @$$e$, losing that flying leap at sabotage, and murder.
