Brazil: Judge suspends swearing-in of former president Lula to Cabinet post

http://www.cnn.com/2016/03/17/americas/brazil-rousseff-lula-tapes/index.html

A Brazilian federal judge has suspended, on a preliminary basis, the controversial swearing-in of former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva as chief of staff to Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff.

"Lula," as he is known, was sworn into the Cabinet post earlier Thursday amid protests by opponents, who claim the move is an attempt to shield the former president from a corruption investigation.

State-run news agency Agencia Brasil reports that the Brazilian attorney general has said that he will appeal the judge's decision.

According to the ruling by Judge Itagiba Catta Preta Neto of the Judicial Section of the Federal District, Lula's appointment as chief of staff interferes with the "free exercise of the Judiciary Power, the operation of the Federal Police and of the Federal Prosecutor's Office."
