Argentine President Admits Having Bank Account in Bahamas

Buenos Aires, May 26 (Prensa Latina) Argentine President Mauricio Macri, who is linked to several offshore companies through the Panama papers, changed his 2015 sworn statement, with doubled assets and admitted having an account in the Bahamas.

Macri declares now that his assets in 2015 amounted to more than $110 million pesos ($7.66 million USD), a figure that doubles the amount he declared when running as presidential candidate, says the website ambito.com, specialized in financial issues.

The change in Macri's sworn statement at the Anti-Corruption Office (OA) is available on the OA website, said ambito.com. He also said that he had seven properties in Argentina and an account in the Bahamas for $18,719,094 pesos ($ 1.3 million USD).

One of the cases that came to light in the Panama Papers indicates that Macri is a board member of the bogus company Fleg Trading, which operated in the Bahamas, one of the main tax havens in the world. He also said that he had $5,176,000 pesos ($359,500 USD) in accounts in the United States and Switzerland, and also that he purchased four tracts of land in Tandil and Salta.
