Venezuelan Army Rejects Attempt to Apply Democratic Charter
Caracas, June 2 (Prensa Latina) The Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB in Spanish) released today a statement in which reject the attempt to apply the Democratic Charter against Venezuela, promoted by the Organization of American States (OAS).
According to the statement, the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, 'intends to affect the sovereignty of our nation, relying on a negative and biased vision of the country, quite apart from reality'.
'We reiterate to all Venezuelans (...) the call for unity to confront this new threat. We must preserve our pacifist vocation, but at the same time, we must defend the traditions inherited from the founding fathers of independence', was published in the Ministry of Defense's website.
In this regard, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Delcy Rodriguez, thanked this Thursday those countries that decided not to endorse the intentions of Almagro and support the opposition-government dialogues sponsored by the Union of South American Nations as the way out of the crisis in the country.
The former presidents Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero (Spain), Leonel Fernandez (Dominican Republic) and Martin Torrijos (Panama) serve as mediators in the dialogues.
