Costa Rican Employer Propose Zero Increase of Wages

San Jose, Jun 15 (Prensa Latina) The offer of the Costa Rican employers of zero wage increase for the second semester of 2016 heated discussion on the subject today, a before the government present its initiative.
The position of the Costa Rican Union of Chambers and Associations of Private Business Sector (Uccaep), submitted to the National Wages Council (CNS) establishes to keep for the next six months the current salary of 1.3 million employees who work in the private sector of this Central American nation.

Union representatives, grouped into confederations and labor organizations, presented their wage increase initiative last week to the CNS, which ranges between 2.13 and 3.5 percent, as well as differentiated raises for groups such as the domestic servants.

Today, after submitting the governments initiative, the CNS members will set the adjustment for the private sector wages, which shall take effect from July 1.

To justify his position, Uccaep director Luis Mesalles, made clear that his proposal is the result of the methodology agreed between businessman, government representatives and trade unions during October 2011, which allowed the purchasing power of the unskilled workers raise nearly 13 percent in the past five years.
