Breitbart, a media organization that touts itself as an alternative to establishment news, has joined the mainstream media smear campaign against Ecuadors democratic socialist Alianza PAIS party.
The far-right site, echoing rival publications owned by liberal Wall Street elites, showed blatant support for opposition presidential candidate Guillermo Lasso, who has been dubbed the Ecuadorean Trump on Twitter. The site referred to the millionaire banker as Ecuadors pro-freedom candidate, comparing his business accolades to Argentinas right-wing President Mauricio Macri.
. . .
Breitbart, reporting that Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa is threatening to dissolve the government if Lasso wins the election, decontextualized his comments made at a press conference. The race will head to a second round on April 2 since Alianza PAIS candidate Lenin Moreno came less than one percentage point away from getting the 40 percent needed to win a first-round victory.
Speaking out against alleged election irregularities that hurt Alianza PAIS candidate Lenin Moreno, Correa described as suspect that in six provinces where his party has historically won, 100 percent of the vote counting has not yet been completed.
Alianza PAIS also confirmed that completed ballots differed from those uploaded via scanner and sent to the National Electoral Council, CNE.
