End of U.S Blockade Against Cuba is Demanded in Streets of Miami
It also called for a full normalization of relations between the two peoples and governments, and an end to restrictions on Americans traveling freely to Cuba.

We cannot sit idly while our families and the rest of the Cuban people suffer the consequences of these cruel and arbitrary policies by the administration of President Donald Trump,' said Andres Gomez, national coordinator of the Antonio Maceo Brigade, a member of that entity.
He also criticized the position of the Cuban extreme right wing allied with the government in the city.

(12,774 posts)A blockade is a act of war where US warships and planes would not allow anything to get in or out of Cuba. Like we did to Japan in WWII.

(58,043 posts)Surprisingly, my very red state's Republican governor and senior Senator want it lifted. That's because the rice producers here want to export to Cuba.

(389 posts)Completely depends on the politics and economy of the state's representative. Many farming economy red states have been seeking normalization for a long time now.
Many Dems in S Florida have long sought the anti Castro vote.

(164,164 posts)during the days of the Cuban American National Foundation President, Jorge Mas Canosa, and his original wave of right-wing "exiles."
For years, they kept a tight lid on Cubans who supported dialogue with Cuba, and didn't spare the violence, when they deemed it necessary.
Very impressive seeing these comments from Miami citizens:
There were no provocations by right-wing and anti-Cuban groups against our cars, and we felt the positive support of many people during the tour, Diaz told Prensa Latina.
We even heard shouts of Long Live Cuba! and Long Live the Revolution! as we travel down busy avenues in Southwest and near the University of Miami, he added.
As they have done on other occasions, the participants in the two-hour caravan also expressed their rejection of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba more than 55 years ago.
It takes a long time to see progress transforming hearts and minds, but it does happen.
Thanks for the fresh look at Miami, Mike, and congrats to those who have refused to give up on sanity gaining the upper hand over politics all this time!

(2,412 posts)Do you mean the Cubans who fled Castro and his murderous executioner Che Guevara because they disagreed with their worldview of extreme Marxist/Leninism?

The Cubans who didn't get to enjoy, "the pedagogy of 'el paredón'" (the executioners wall)?
Hmm... I wonder who were the lucky ones... the "right wingers" who fled, or the ones who got Che's lead between the eyes...

(389 posts)The VAST majority of Cuban "exiles" came here post-Che Guevera, even post Mariel (1980).
Still, over 11 million Cubans choose to stay.
Your strident cold-war era worldview (at least LatAm view) is way past its bedtime. Useless even.

(164,164 posts)Progress is really being made these day. Would have been hard to imagine just as far back as Elián's visit, and escape back to his home to live with his family, including his baby brother, Hianny, and the one born after he got home.

Elián, talking to family, Juan Miguel sitting in the doorway, still looking young, in 2015.
