Washington and Moscow traded barbs over Venezuela on Sunday with Russia’s foreign minister urging the United States to abandon its “irresponsible” plan to depose Nicolás Maduro and his US counterpart slamming Russian meddling in the South American country.

. . .

Any US attempt to topple Maduro through force would bring “grave consequences,” Lavrov reportedly warned.

. . .

Sol Castro, a retired university professor who attended one protest in west Caracas, said she feared the solution to Venezuela’s crisis increasingly appeared to lie in foreign hands.

“[It feels like] we may be approaching an end … but [also] that we’re only pawns in a larger game where superpowers, or former superpowers, or superpower wannabes will decide when and how this ends,” Castro said.

Washington’s “irresponsible” plan to overthrow the Caracas government by force would result in a catastrophe, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has warned, calling on the US to stick to the international law on Venezuela.

Lavrov denounced “an unprecedented campaign led by the US and aimed at toppling Venezuela’s legitimate government.” What Venezuela needs right now is political dialogue, not power grab attempts, the Russian minister said.

Only Venezuelans themselves can define the fate of their state, Lavrov said, as he called for “inclusive political dialogue.”

Doctrine and would never have allowed the Russians to establish a foothold in Venezuela. Putin's bitch was so far up his behind kissing it that he slept on the Russians moving in.

Or maybe he never heard of the Monroe Doctrine? Whatever it is, it's too late now. trump has put Putin in position and now he's the one calling the shots in Venezuela.
