Why are US tourists dying in Dominican Republic?

18 June 2019

A New Jersey man has become at least the ninth US tourist to die in the Dominican Republic in a string of deaths the FBI is investigating.

Relatives of Joseph Allen, 55, say he was healthy and had been a frequent visitor to the Caribbean island nation.

Several of the tourists who died over the past year drank from their hotel minibar before falling ill, say family.

The FBI is helping local authorities with toxicology tests. No link has been established between the deaths.

where someone got some insecticide from India or somewhere unregulated it, brought it illegally to Canada and used it in the home. The family got really really sick. That's all I can remember. But some of the first people injured from the DR said there was a smell in their unit and it did not go away when they went into another room.

As I mentioned before,we did the DR resort thing back in the late nineties and early 2000'. Do remember the use of a fumigant at the Resort we stayed at. Usually when you check in,your rooms are fumigated before the round of Guests arrive.

The Smell of Moth Balls and I think it is the same crap used for Scorpion's,. Highly toxic to the Upper respiratory system. Do remember two children dying in Utah because of this stuff leaking into their Bedrooms. The Pest control company settled for millions and the Applicator was brought up on charges which were dismissed.

Termite poison. Do remember massive Termite Mounds just outside the DR Resort and the Poison used is a type of Mustard Gas or something in that nature, deadly when inhaled. The Case in Utah, the Exterminator applied this stuff outside of the House and the Gas leaked into the Kids Bedrooms.

Or tampered with due to the fact that multiple deaths occurred after drinking from the room bar supply. .

is what I was hearing also. It appears to have happened in the same chain resort.

These places offer “all you can drink” and they may have added something to the booze. I hope the FBI finds out what is going on!

these suspicious cases. In Mexico, it was discovered that some resorts featuring the all inclusives were also buying discounted liquor, contaminated by toxic additives, including anti-freeze. I also wondered about an environmental source. Pesticide certainly should be looked at.

Maybe some hotel employee thought to make a little cash on the side by refilling mini booze bottles with illegal hooch. Somebody might have cooked up a batch of bad liquor in a lethal backyard still. Who knows what went into the mash or what was used to piece together a working still.
