Lula Promotes Political Polarization in Speech

In an event with petistas arrested by the Car Wash Operation, former president reinforces his opposition to Bolsonaro

Former President Lula extolled political polarization and reinforced his opposition to President Jair Bolsonaro.

He said that those who ask him to “silence certain truths so as not to disturb the political environment, so as not to pose a threat to democracy” are those who, in fact, had no commitment to democracy.

"To those who criticize or fear polarization, we have to have the courage to say: we are, indeed, the opposite of Bolsonaro. We cannot stand on the fence or halfway: we are and will be opposed by this extreme government that has boosted unemployment and demands that the unemployed pay the bill,” said the petista in a speech at the opening of the 7th National Congress of the PT, on Friday (22), in Sao Paulo.

The event brought together petistas arrested by Operation Lava Jato, such as João Vaccari Neto and José Dirceu.

Still trying to regain his right to reenter politics, Lula signaled his plans for political continuity in a speech of just over an hour. He is appointed by the PT as the main name for the 2022 election.

"Today I make myself available to Brazil to contribute on this journey to a better life, a life full, especially for those who cannot be abandoned along the way."
