Uruguay confirms Covid-10 in country

Last edited Fri Mar 13, 2020, 07:29 PM - Edit history (1)

Uruguay confirms four cases of covid 19 in individuals arriving from Italy between march 3 and 6.
Two are in Montevideo, the Capitol (and half the population) and two in Salto. I do not know if this is four separate cases or two cases of pairs (family or pareja).
Uruguay has many citizens with Italian roots.

Today Punte del Este turned away a MSC cruise ship. Montevideo is a cruise port.

Edit adding: The two confirmed in Salto are reported to be a mother and daughter.

The entire department (state) of Salto, Uruguay is to be closed off today.
One of the two who tested positive went to a wedding the night she arrived in Uruguay and 500 people including educators were exposed.
The Salto schools are now closed.

Edit adding: Authorities have walked back the idea of closing off the department.

However, twenty individuals in Salto are being monitored for suspected coronavirus

3. Wow. They did move right in and start covering this immediately, trying to find the right solution.

I looked up Salto in its Wikipedia, saw that it's 300+ miles NorthWest from Montevideo. It seems very interesting, even having its own mineral springs there. There's a fascinating page of photos and information in google images to check later.

Thanks for the information on how they are treating this. It sounds as if they are not having ANY conflicts about it, unlike the Trump idiots.

4. Uruguay has hot springs that bring tourism

In Uruguay, the hot-springs resorts attract many tourists. The Salto municipal termos are closed and private water-resorts have been asked to close.

Two new cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Montevideo (6 total in country); both individuals having traveled to Europe.
Pharmacies are reportedly rationing hand-sanitizer and face masks (business not government decisions).
