Brazil reached 2 million confirmed cases of Covid-19, with 43,829 new infections registered on Thursday (16). One thousand two hundred ninety-nine deaths were also documented, bringing the total number of deaths from the new coronavirus to 76,822.

To date, only Brazil and the United States have had more than 1 million infected by the disease.

The data comes from an unprecedented collaboration between Folha, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo, G1, and UOL to gather and disclose the numbers related to the pandemic of the new coronavirus. The information is collected directly from the state Health Departments. The balance is closed daily at 8 pm.

In addition to the consortium's daily data, Folha started showing the so-called moving average. The statistical resource seeks to give a better view of the evolution of the disease, as it attenuates isolated numbers that deviate from the pattern. The moving average is calculated by adding the result of the last seven days, dividing by seven.
