By Joe Vazquez August 18, 2020 at 7:50 pm
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) A San Francisco Rec and Park employee posted video on social media of a weekend encounter with an unmasked woman who approached with scissors in hand while going on a racist tirade.
The employee who was targeted with the abuse, a San Franciscan named Andrés Patino was doing outreach work with the San Francisco Rec and Park Departments Love Dolores campaign when a woman approached who was not wearing face covering as mandated by city and state health orders.
The woman was holding a pair of scissors and, according to Patino, using them to cut down the signs blocking the playground in the park from public use due to the pandemic.
Patino decided to follow her and record video.
She put on some yellow gloves, carrying some scissors. And ended up going towards the park and I was like, Okay, that never looks good,' Patino said.

The Dolores Park playground is closed because of COVID-19 restrictions, but a wildly racist Karen decided to blame a Rec and Parks outreach worker over the closure, in a video thats quickly going viral on Facebook. The unidentified woman was upset to find the Dolores Park playground closed, and took it out on a Rec and Parks worker of color by yelling You little nigres. Go back to wherever you came from.

Video of the Sunday incident can be seen above, from an outreach coordinator with the LoveDolores project a worker who had nothing to do with the city-mandated closure of the playground. In the post, the worker of Colombian heritage says Yesterday, while doing outreach for LoveDolores, I was approached by this unknown Karen at Dolores Park. Upset about COVID regulations, she took it upon herself to cut & remove the blockade closing the Childrens Playground (mandated by Citys health orders) and verbally harass me.
The angry womans Branch Covidian tirade crosses back and forth between COVID-19 denialism and brutal racism. This is an unconstitutional, unlawful taking of public property, she says of the playground closure, while cutting down the ribbon-barriers with scissors and calling the worker you dumb sheep.
Go to the hospital, tell them to put you on a ventilator, she yells. Theyll kill you with a ventilator, like theyre doing to thousands of others.
We paid for this park. You dont get to take our property. We paid for it, you little nigres. Go back to wherever you came from. Stop trying to steal the property we paid for. Go back to wherever you came from. You dont get to take it.
Mission Local reached out to the outreach worker, identified as Andres Patino. Since I was working at the time, I had to [refrain] myself and was unable to stand up to her comments, Patino tells Mission Local. But have decided I really want to find a way to hold her accountable for her actions and to hopefully avoid someone else being on the receiving end of this hateful person in the park again or somewhere else in the City.

Woman filmed hurling racist insults, breaking COVID rules at Dolores Park
By Amy Graff, SFGATE Published 5:08 pm PDT, Tuesday, August 18, 2020
An unidentified woman hurled racist, xenophobic remarks at a San Francisco Recreation and Parks employee Sunday, as she cut through ropes blocking off the childrens play area in Dolores Park that has been closed for weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Public outreach coordinator Andrés Patino captured the incident on video and posted the footage on Facebook Monday.
Rangers responded to the verbal assault and escorted her to the perimeter of the park. An investigation is underway, Rec and Parks said in a statement.
Patino shared the video because he wanted to raise awareness of the incident that he said was atypical for San Francisco.
"I wanted to make a Facebook statement," Patino said. "I wanted to hold her accountable and let her know this isn't the San Francisco way. This behavior isn't appropriate. I decided to post it as a way to process the situation and condemn this behavior. I don't want someone to experience what I went through."
