Brazil bank heist: Armed men take hostages in attack on Cametá

2 December 2020

A gang of armed men has stormed a city in northern Brazil, attacking a bank and taking hostages.

The overnight attack on Cametá appears to be almost identical to one in Criciúma, a city in the south, by gunmen in the early hours of Tuesday.

There is no suggestion that the two incidents are linked. Video footage from Cametá appeared to show a group of hostages being led through the streets.

One person died in the attack, according to the city's mayor.

Waldo Valenti did not give any more details but a local lawmaker, Éder Mauro, said the victim was one of the hostages, who "had been shot in the head".

It appears to be a group of men, with no shirts walking in single file. Hostages? Upon reading some of the comments on Twitter, a resident who lives in this town described this group of "hostages" in the park while the heist was occurring, They were watching a famous soccer match. Perhaps pre-planned?

Under the Bozo regime during this pandemic, this president relaxed gun laws in a country already ransacked by armed and violent criminals. Also another unprecedented controversial response to the Covid was to release thousands of prisoners.

Related? Now there are two rural towns in a row that are experiencing results of a pandemic crime spree.
