WASHINGTON and BRASÍLIA
The Jair Bolsonaro government is evaluating possibly announcing an increase in the Ministry of the Environment's budget during the Summit of Leaders on Climate, organized by the President of the United States, Joe Biden, between April 22 and 23.

In a letter sent to Biden on Wednesday (14), Bolsonaro pledged to end illegal deforestation in Brazil by 2030, but the American government is pushing for concrete measures and wants Brazil to show results this year.

According to people involved in the negotiations, the new allocation of resources would support government inspection bodies like Ibama and ICMBio (Instituto Chico Mendes). These organizations had their budgets emptied under the Bolsonaro administration and have reported that they don't even have money to pay basic bills, such as dispatching inspectors to field work.
