US envoy to return to El Salvador after government outrage

San Salvador, May 11 (Prensa Latina) US Special Envoy for El Salvador Ricardo Zúñiga will return to this country to meet with authorities that refused to receive him in April.

Zúñiga, a Honduran diplomat, then met with judicial, business and civil society institutions, but President Nayib Bukele refused to receive him.

At the time, Zúñiga downplayed what was interpreted as an outrage by Bukele, but the president himself reproached in a recent meeting with diplomatic corps that President Joe Biden's envoy preferred to meet with the opposition.

Zuñiga's agenda now includes some meetings through Wednesday to tackled down on mutual interest issues such as democratic governance, human rights and the crackdown on corruption.

But when I travelled through Salvador in ‘75 there were no good guys. Had to duck bullets coming from all sides.
