Some 50 boats took part in a protest regatta in Cubas Cienfuegos Bay Sunday, accompanied by bikers and people waving flags on the shore, to demand an end to US sanctions amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The communist island claims the sanctions, tightened under ex-president Donald Trump, have prevented it from producing the vaccines it needs for its population.
Under President Joe Biden, the United States government has kept intact Trumps measures that harm the Cuban people, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said on Twitter.
The country of 11.2 million people has reported more than 141,000 cases of Covid-19 and 950 deaths.
It started immunizing members of the public this month with two locally-produced vaccines that have yet to complete clinical trials.
Under American sanctions since 1962, Cuba has a long tradition of making its own vaccines, dating back to the 1980s, and is working on five coronavirus candidate shots. It has not bought or sought coronavirus vaccines from elsewhere.

HAVANA (Reuters) - Hundreds of Cubans took to Havanas famous seaside drive on Sunday in a colorful caravan of cars, motorcycles and bicycles to demand the United States lift its 60-year-old embargo on the Caribbean island nation.
The caravan was part of a weekend of small protests and caravans in more than 50 cities around the world, including in the United States, supported by local authorities in hopes of influencing the Biden administration to change U.S. policy and to counter a campaign by Cuban exiles to keep the embargo in place.
Horns blared, Cuban flags fluttered and masked protesters yelled "down with the blockade" as they passed the U.S. embassy situated along the drive, known as the Malecon, in vehicles of all sizes and vintages.
"We are here for the end of the blockade, for the end of the sanctions," protester Felix Moya said.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump's administration took more than 200 initiatives to tighten the decades-old trade embargo on Cuba over four years, citing concerns about a lack of democracy and Havanas support for Venezuelas socialist government.
