Prosecutor says the right-wing candidate failed to abide by the terms of her prison release granted a year-and-a-half ago

Keiko Fujimori

AMID uncertainty in Peru following a closely contested presidential election that left-wing candidate Pedro Castillo appears to have narrowly won, a judge is considering right-wing presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori’s freedom.

Prosecutor Jose Domingo Perez has asked a judge to return Ms Fujimori to prison for failing to abide by the terms of her release granted a year-and-a-half ago.(One spokesperson for her campaign.

Ms Fujimori was freed after spending more than a year in jail as part of a probe into millions of dollars in illegal campaign contributions she allegedly received from the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht.

Mr Perez said in March that Ms Fujimori should be jailed for 30 years, along with her husband and 38 other people.
