Mexico's federal government, led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrado r, ordered his administration to investigate all the bank account s and financial movements made by former President Enrique Peña Nieto and his family during his presidency.

At the same time, the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF), led by Santiago Nieto , asked the National Banking and Securities Commission for detailed information regarding bank accounts , movements, contracts signed, credits, or homes purchased by PRI lawmaker Luis Enrique Miranda , who was the head of the SEDESOL during Peña Nieto's administration; the UIF also requested information about Alma Laura Saldaña Farach , Miranda's wife.

The request for information was issued by Minister Irma Eréndira Sandoval on April 14. In the document, it is explained that Sandoval is investigating the increase in the wealth of the former President.

In the request, the Public Affairs Ministry includes at least 50 banks where Peña Nieto , his children, and his relatives have bank accounts, including Banca Afirme, Banco del Bajío, ABC Capital Banco, Citibanamex, Santander, HSBC, Bancofiel, Bank of China México, Bank of America México, American Express Bank México, Banco Azteca, BBVA México, Banco Multiva, among others.

Moreover, the Mexican government is requested access to check accounts, savings, deposits, credits , and any other financial operation registered between December 1, 2012, and November 30, 2018.

The document also requests a review of exchange houses, savings accounts , and others entities where Enrique Peña Nieto , Angélica Rivera , Paulina Peña, Nicole Peña, Alejandro Peña, or Diego Alejandro Peña are beneficiaries.

Furthermore, the Public Affairs Ministry requested a “certified copy of the documents such as bank statements , files such as contracts, documents provided to open bank accounts and modifications made to the specific file, mortgages , car loans, personal credits, and consumption credits, as well as information related to opening dates, amounts, terms, and the current balance. "

When EL UNIVERSAL questioned the Public Affairs Ministry about the authenticity of the document obtained, a spokesperson said they couldn't provide information in regards to the investigation .

Luis Enrique Miranda & Alma Laura Saldaña Farach

In another document, the UIF requested information related to PRI lawmaker Luis Enrique Miranda and his wife, Alma Laura Saldaña Farach, from 2010 to 2020. According to the government department, it will analyze and process all the information.

In this document, also obtained by EL UNIVERSAL, it is explained that Luis Enrique Miranda and Alma Laura Saldaña are being investigated and that authorities are requesting all the information about their bank accounts, contracts signed, credits, or homes purchased by either of them.

The investigation is confirmed

On April 16, Santiago Nieto confirmed Luis Enrique Miranda is under investigation but didn’t provide further information.

Nieto explained that the government is not looking to imprison former government officials but to take the cases to tribunals and end with impunity.

In a meeting with lawmakers from the PT, Santiago Nieto said authorities have “filed lawsuits against Emilio Lozoya, there is an ongoing investigation in a case against Luis Miranda, and the President has told me that we must have a 0 tolerance policy for corruption and impunity.”

EL UNIVERSAL requested a comment from Enrique Peña Nieto and Miranda but didn’t receive a response.

Peña Nieto’s new life

After his presidency ended on November 30, 2018, Enrique Peña Nieto divorced Angélica Rivera and withdrew from public life. It was later revealed he is now in a relationship with model Tania Ruíz. He was last seen in public on September 18, when he wore a wig to feast on sushi along with Ruíz in New York.

Mexico's former President Peña Nieto with Tania Ruíz in New York

(You may recall in all corporate US news sources during Peña Nieto's first presidential campaign, they ALWAYS made a point, maybe the only point in noting how "photogenic" the candidate is. Not exactly a great reason to elect the slimy little so-and-so.)

PEÑA NIETO SPOTTED IN NEW YORK WEARING A WIG AND BASEBALL CAP
By Yucatan Times

The former president has been linked to several corruption cases including PEMEX purchase of Fertinal, and the so-called “master fraud“.

Enrique Peña Nieto and his girlfriend, Mexican model Tania Ruiz are said to be vacationing in New York.

And on the morning of Wednesday September 18th, a picture of them dinning at Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill went viral in which the former president can be seen wearing a wig during their dinner date.

Since his presidency and his marriage to actress Angélica Rivera came to an end, Peña Nieto embarked on a romance with Tania Ruíz Eichelman, a Mexican model from San Luis Potosí, Mexico.

Moreover, since the former president has been named in corruption scandals such as Fertinal and the Master Fraud, he has been seen vacationing abroad in cities such as Madrid, Brussels, and New York.

It is an insult to the people of Mexico, the fact that a former president who is involved in corruption cases for billions of pesos, and wanders around the world wearing stupid disguises, is not detained and duly investigated. This situation only raises suspicions that Peña Nieto could have negotiated amnesty with López Obrador to remain untouchable. The question is: if there was a negotiation, what is AMLO winning? Perhaps part of the loot…

Luxurious presidential house draws Mexican press scrutiny

MEXICO CITY — A prominent Mexican journalist published an article Sunday alleging that the registered owner of the Mexican first lady’s house is a company affiliated with a business group that has received lucrative government contracts, including one to build a high-speed train that last week was awarded and then abruptly canceled.

In response to the article, a spokesman for President Enrique Peña Nieto said that the first lady, former actress Angelica Rivera, hired the company, Ingenieria Inmobiliaria del Centro, to acquire the real estate on her behalf and that she has been paying for it.

The alleged conflict of interest comes at a difficult time for Peña Nieto. His government has faced weeks of public outcry over the disappearance and likely deaths of 43 students in the state of Guerrero, at the hands of drug cartel members and corrupt local police.

The cancellation of the train contract also has raised questions about the fairness of the bidding process and whether companies with insider connections were initially benefitting.

The article, published on journalist Carmen Aristegui’s Web site, centered on a white $7 million house of more than 10,000 square feet in the wealthy Lomas de Chapultepec neighborhood of Mexico City. The spokesman, Eduardo Sanchez, said that on Jan. 12, 2012, Rivera signed a contract with the company to acquire the house because it is adjacent to another property she owned and her intention was to “expand the space of her own house.”

Mexico leader faces charge contractor rewarded him with mansion

MEXICO CITY — A Mexican investigative team reported Sunday that President Enrique Pena Nieto and his actress wife possess a posh mansion built to their taste by a company that has grown fat with government contracts.

Pena Nieto has not reported the mansion, worth an estimated $7 million, on his official declaration of assets in the past two years, the team said. The allegation falls on Pena Nieto at a time when he faces lagging support and public outrage over an apparent massacre of 43 students. It may also test his image as a leader who claims to battle corruption and fight for the rule of law.

Known as Casa La Palma, the mansion was built by a subsidiary of Grupo Higa, which has earned hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts under Pena Nieto, according to investigative reporters at aristeguinoticias.com, a news portal led by Carmen Aristegui, a radio and television journalist.

The mansion has an underground parking garage, an elevator, seven bedrooms, marble floors and a special system of recessed mood lighting that changes colors. Two distinctive palm trees jut above its white exterior.
